Grant Funds For Census Completion. Hello Neighbors. Hope everyone is well and staying safe. As I mentioned in May we have the opportunity to receive grant funds if you completed the Census. We’ll also be making a push between now and 8/31/2020 to have 90% or more of Oakbrooke households complete the census. So help out your community with grant funds by responding to this post if you completed the census already. I just need your first and last name and the approximate date you completed the Census. Note this is for ALL Oakbrooke residents (Owners and Renters). You must be a resident of Oakbrooke in order for us to get the funds. I’ll be posting the link to the census later but make sure you only respond once for completing it. We don’t want to jeopardize Oakbrooke receiving funds for duplicate entries 😊.

This is a golden opportunity for us to help the community. The City of Charlotte will give us grant funds for every household that participates. PLEASE, PLEASE, respond to this message. And a big Thank You to the CITY OF CHARLOTTE for this awesome opportunity. Remember I must have your first and last name so if it’s different from your profile make sure you provide it. I’ll gather all the names and sign off on the fact that you/your household completed it. Thanks for your participation. Please tell your neighbors and/or post their names and dates if they are not on next door or don’t have access to our page. I’ll let you all know in September how we did. Please respond.

Hello Neighbors,

Welcome to Summer. And while the temps have not reached their heights please continue to be safe from the heat and any continuing affects the COVID - 19 virus may have on our community. Remember to take appropriate safety measures while out and about that is for the heat we can expect and the virus we’re dealing with today. With the recent events across our country please be safe. I’m not here to tell you how to react to the recent passing of Mr. Floyd but I will say it was wrong. I’ll also say we should express ourselves appropriately and should NOT take our frustrations out on innocent people (business owners, police, neighbors, etc) that had nothing to do with the recent events. I hope our Nation and local communities come out stronger on the other side of these events.

Turning to updates on the grant project, we have some hours in so we have the green light to start upgrading the clubhouse. But there is more work to be done. We need more hours. I’ll post in the next week or so what we need vs where we are. For now we want to focus on Three events we have coming up.

1. The Census. Did you know if you complete the census that counts towards our hours? Well, it does. We’ll post more info on Next door in the coming days so we can get participation and track the hours.

2. Homeowner Clean Up event. This event will happen at the end of the month to encourage families to get their yards looking good. With social distancing in mind each family that want to participate would work on their property. You can cut the grass, plant flowers, pressure wash the house, clean up your yard, etc. We want to encourage everyone to participate and post before and after pics. More details to come.

3. Back to School Drive. This event has not been finalized as of yet but will happen in Aug. I really need everyone on this! If you are out and about pick up some extra supplies for your kids and other kids in the community. $5-$10 goes a long ways. This also helps us get grant funds. More info to come.

These are just some of the things we are doing. The city has given us plenty of other great ideas we can use as community service even while social distancing.

As you all can see the weather is warming up nicely. Now that you've picked up your FREE MULCH, time to get the lawn looking good. The key to this is feeding your grass and watering it properly! The link below will give you tips on how to water your grass the right way. WORRIED about your bill??? Don't. If you water your grass with the proper frequency and with a little help from Mother Nature you'll barely notice the difference. By the way consider installing a drip irrigation system for plants, shrubs, flower beds, etc. They are EXTREMELY inexpensive (some kits as low as $25) VERY efficient, and they WORK! This little investment will surely increase your curb appeal, therefore increase the value of your home!! Don't forget to pick up a timer for your regular lawn watering needs at Lowes or Home Depot, Amazon, etc.
