Democracy Summer is ideal for college students interested in working in social and economic justice, community-based advocacy, research, politics, law, or nonprofits. Democracy Summer is a life-changing, hands-on internship experience for undergraduate college students from across the state.

Democracy Summer Interns work up to 40 hours per week (including some evenings and weekends) from early June to late July and earn a stipend of $5,000 (taxable) for the summer.

Each intern will work with our organizing team to gain valuable skills and experience in developing relationships in communities, recruiting volunteers, and mobilization efforts, while fighting for a democracy that works for all.

Kim Thomas was President of NOW Charlotte when she was brutally murdered. May she finally get some justice. May she finally rest in peace. We thank her for all of her hard work on behalf of women's rights. May we forever remember her.

Police made an arrest in the death of Kim Thomas, 32, a mother who was killed in her Cotswold home on July 2, 1990.

Happy ! We'd like to commemorate some of the women who fought ardently for abolition and women's rights in the 19th century.

Sarah Mapps Douglas (1806-1882) was an artist, abolitionist and educator who created a school for Black women in Philadelphia, led the Female Literary Association, and was among the founding members of the Philadelphia Female Anti-Slavery Society.

Sarah Forten (1814-1893), alongside her mother and her sisters, were closely associated with Sarah Mapps Douglas. Sarah Forten served on the governing board of the Philadelphia Female Anti-Slavery Society. Sarah was a passionate writer, publishing articles and poems in "The Liberator" newspaper.

Maria W. Stewart (1803-1879) made history when she wrote and published a political manifesto, the first Black American woman to do so. She was also among the first women to publicly speak to a crowd of men and women in 1832 at Franklin Hall in Boston, addressing the evils of both slavery and racism.

Sojourner Truth (1797-1883) became known for her lectures promoting the abolition of slavery and campaigning for civil and women's rights. Born into slavery, she escaped to freedom and became a prominent voice for Black Americans.
