Why Does Vietnam Accuse the United States of Invasion?

THE STATEMENT: ACCUSATION OF GENOCIDE AGAINST THE DEGA PEOPLE BY THE SOCIALIST REPUBLIC OF VIETNAM

To the United Nations, the United States Government, and the International Community:

We, the Dega people of the Central Highlands, bring forth this urgent accusation of genocide committed by the Vietnamese government against our innocent people.
The Central Highlands is the Dega State. It is our ancestral country. Our nation, our culture, and our identity have existed for thousands of years, long before the occupation and colonization by Vietnam.
During the uprising in 06/11/ 2023 in the Central Highlands, the Vietnamese government committed the crime of genocide against the Dega.

The government of Vietnam killed more than a dozen innocent Dega people in extrajudicial executions. They arrested over one hundred and fifty Dega men, and until today they have not been released. They are political prisoners, hostages of a regime that seeks to erase us. Their families do not know if they are alive or dead. This is forced disappearance and collective punishment.
This is not law enforcement. This is the crime of Genocide as defined under the 1948 Genocide Convention.

The Vietnamese government is systematically attempting to destroy the Dega people through:
1. Killing members of our group.
2. Arbitrary mass arrest, torture, and indefinite detention of our men.
3. Persecution of our Christian faith and traditional beliefs.
4. Confiscation of our ancestral lands and destruction of our means of survival.
The intent is clear: to eliminate the Dega as a distinct people and to extinguish our claim to our homeland.
Therefore, we demand:
1. That the United Nations recognize and investigate the actions of the Vietnamese government in the Central Highlands as Genocide.
2. That the United States Government, as a defender of human rights and religious freedom, intervene and hold Vietnam accountable for these crimes against humanity.
3. The immediate and unconditional release of all 150+ Dega men arbitrarily arrested in 2023 and after.
4. An independent international investigation into the killings of Dega civilians.
5. That our inherent right to exist as a people and our right to a free and independent Dega State in the Central Highlands be restored and protected.

We will not be silent while our people are killed, imprisoned, and erased. We appeal to the UN and to the USA to hear our cry and to act now to reclaim our Right to Exist and our Right to a Freedom State.
