On Tuesday, October 13, our President & CEO Keith Stanley joined neighbors, community leaders, and local public safety partners for National Night Out at Armored Cow Brewing Co.. It was a wonderful opportunity to spend time together, get to know one another, and celebrate the people who make University City such a special place.

A big thank you to Myra Johnston, the neighbors and volunteers who organized the evening, Armored Cow Brewing Co., Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's University Division, the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office, Charlotte NC, and our City partners for bringing everyone together.

We're grateful for the people and partnerships that help make University City a welcoming, connected community!

📸 Thank you to our community partners for sharing photos, and to Kim Barnes and Myra Johnston for collecting!

There’s something special about getting a room full of local business owners and entrepreneurs together and watching the connections start to form.

At our Small Business Initiative Networking Event back in August, nearly 140 business owners, entrepreneurs, and community partners came together to share ideas and learn more about the resources available to help businesses grow in University City.

“The level of support and visibility from UCP is the key factor! It allows all the business owners to support one another as well,” said Vincinta Bentu of Epic Legacy.

That’s exactly what we want these events to create: more connections, more visibility, and more opportunities for local businesses to support one another and understand how our team’s resources can be used to their advantage.

We’re grateful to everyone who showed up and helped make the evening such a strong reflection of University City’s growing small business community. Stay tuned for our next networking event!

What does it take to build a stronger, more connected University City?

For UCP Board Vice Chair and Planning & Development Chair Richmond Baker, it starts with investing in the assets already here, from neighborhoods, greenways, and employment centers.

A longtime University City resident and technology leader, Richmond brings both personal and professional perspective to the Board, with a focus on growth, connectivity, and creating opportunities that benefit the broader community.

In our latest Inside UCP feature, Richmond shares what drew his family to University City, how his background in technology shapes the way he thinks about economic development, and why he believes strong communities are built by people who are willing to invest in one another.
