One of the best ways to figure out your home pollinator garden is to see one IRL. Join us at the Tuckaseegee Arboretum & Gardens Grand Opening on Saturday, June 20. We’ll be there with a table, and would love to answer questions and hear your plans.

If you haven't already experienced mosquitos in your yard this season, our recent rains will most definitely bring them out. Please don't be tempted by the promise of fast relief by mosquito sprays. Why?
(1) they aren't particularly effective
(2) they kill all insects, including many of the beneficial insects needed for pollination

What to do instead?
~Kill their nurseries - check for standing water in your garden frequently and change bird back water every few days
~Try a mosquito trap - using simple materials such as a bucket, leaf or lawn litter and a dunk tablet
~Utilize personal protection
~Try a fan to keep mosquito away if you are only protecting a small area

On the Friday before Memorial Day, wear a red poppy to honor the fallen and support the living who have worn our nation's uniform.

The red poppy is a nationally recognized symbol of sacrifice worn by Americans since World War I to honor those who served and died for our country in all wars.

Meet Freedom Park’s newest pollinator! 🐝
The Extension Master Gardener℠ volunteers of Mecklenburg County are excited to introduce Pollinator in the Park, a new rotating feature in our demonstration garden at Freedom Park.

This whimsical bee sculpture—created entirely from recycled materials—is beginning a journey through the garden! Each month, the sculpture will “visit” a different plant that supports pollinators, helping visitors discover species that thrive in Mecklenburg County landscapes.

But first… our bee needs a name!
Share your ideas in the comments below. We’ll narrow it down and let the community vote.

Come take a stroll, spot the bee, and learn something new about pollinator‑friendly plants this season!
