🚨WELCOME TO THE GCA BOARD: Amy Dokken 🌟A Dokken Studio🌟 is our new VP! Congratulations! We are so happy to have you!

📍Originally from Minneapolis, Amy is a multidisciplinary creative whose career spans more than 25 years as a product designer, creative director, consultant, photographer, and visual artist. Before relocating to Charlotte, she developed products and creative concepts for national retailers and specialty brands, with work ranging from children's toys and personalized books to stationery, gifts, home décor, and lifestyle accessories. Since moving to Charlotte in 2023, Amy has immersed herself in the local arts community through exhibitions, teaching, plein air painting, arts leadership, and creative collaboration. This broad creative background continues to influence her artistic practice, bringing a strong sense of storytelling, curiosity, and design to everything she creates.

📍Working in mixed media, collage, acrylic, oil, and gouache, Amy creates art inspired by travel, memory, place, and human connection. Whether she’s painting city streets, filling sketchbooks on the road, or building layered narrative pieces in the studio, her work explores not only what we see, but what we remember and feel. Through both her artwork and community involvement, Amy is passionate about bringing people together, encouraging creative exploration, and helping others find meaningful connections through art.

🚨WELCOME to the GCA board, René Fielder René Fielder
We are thrilled that René has joined our board and will be the Board Secretary. Thank you!

📍About René: I am a plein air and studio artist based in Charlotte, NC. After a 20+ year career in design and marketing, I am currently dividing my time between consulting and fine art, pursuing a more creative life.

Painting is a natural extension of a lifelong desire to make things. My work as a designer influences my choices in color and composition, balancing bold hues with structured elements. I work in oils and my subject matter is primarily pets and places. Combining creative instincts with a love of the outdoors, plein air painting was a natural extension of my art practice. I regularly venture out to local Charlotte parks, greenways, and other scenic destinations with CLT Plein Air. I have also painted en plein air internationally in France and Spain. Later this year, I will be bringing my custom pochade box design to market and making it commercially available to other artists.

Joining the Guild of Charlotte Artists has been an important milestone in my artistic career, helping me connect with other artists and the community in Charlotte. By serving on the board, I’ll be able to use the leadership, operations, project management and digital marketing skills I’ve developed in my professional career to impact the experience of other guild members. I am equally at home in Excel or at an easel, which I believe will be an asset.

I have helped many organizations in similar positions of rapid growth successfully
navigate these periods of transition through my organization, tenacity, and
resourcefulness. I look forward to doing the same in the role of Secretary for the Guild.

🚨WELCOME to the GCA board, Elizabeth Ouzts .ouzts.art
We are thrilled that Elizabeth has joined our board and will be the Newsletter/Communication Lead. Thank you!

📍About Elizabeth: Elizabeth is a published poet, artist and photographer. She works in abstract mixed media, focusing on the unexpected results of watercolor over oil pastel, ink over acrylic, hand embroidery on a page from an old book. Taking inspiration from nature’s colors, patterns, and movement, she pairs this with canvases created from dictionaries, calendars, and pages from antique books, having the art reflect the words on the page.

📍Elizabeth lives and works in Charlotte, NC, with her husband and 2 nutty cats. When she’s not working, writing or painting, Elizabeth can be found reading, gardening, or sitting on her back porch. She’s also the proud mom of brand new 2026 SCAD graduate!

🚨WELCOME to the GCA board, Brittany Freemann
We are thrilled that Brittany has joined our board and will be the Programming Lead. Thank you!

📍An Iowa native, Brittany is a multidisciplinary artist whose career began in mixed media and sculpture. She initially honed her craft in the entertainment and design industries, creating props for film and television before transitioning to prototype design for a commercial toy company. Today, her artistic practice is centered on acrylic painting, where she has cultivated a distinctive voice. Freeman’s work, defined by its roots in figurative expressionism, is characterized by a bold and vibrant palette, gestural brushwork, and a profound emotional resonance. Her paintings aim to capture the intangible, those abstract emotions and fleeting moments that defy easy articulation yet resonate deeply within us all.

📍For Freeman, painting is a means of communication, a visual language that transcends words. Through her works, she fosters a sense of shared humanity, inviting viewers to reflect on the complexities of life’s joys and sorrows. Her art serves as both a mirror and a bridge, connecting individual experiences to a universal narrative of vulnerability and connection.
