This orphanage was founded in 1997 by Jyothi Reddi, an India native. I met Jyothi in college here in the US in the late '80s. He has ministered in India for many years since returning in 1989. He has a heart for helping children. The plight of poor or abandoned children in India is terrible. Jyothi came face to face with two such children in his weekly travels as he ministered to poor villages. He started the orphanage out of his small meager home and today has 500 children that he and his family care for. He provides an education, food, shelter, clothing and lots of love to all the children of his house. All of the work of this orphanage has come through private donations. The food budget alone is between $12,000 and $15,000 per month. This seems like a staggering figure, but Jyothi has managed to provide enough to keep them healthy on $1 or less per day per child. That is miraculous. Our main focus, as an organization, is to partner with enough caring people, benevolent business's and other mission minded organizations in order to consistently provide the entire food budget for Jyothi's Home for Children. We believe this to be a worthy goal, one that would free Jyothi and his family up from a tremendous burden of monthly worry and concern about food for the children. They could then turn their focus more on the care, education and love for all these children.
