We spoke about IPAAC Charlotte — an incredible organization dedicated to promoting and preserving Indian classical music right here in the Charlotte community.
If you love Indian classical music or want to learn more about what we do, this episode is for you. Thank you, Gauri, for shining a spotlight on this beautiful art form!

Ashwini Tai, a PhD in Biochemistry from Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, is truly one of a kind. Born into a musical family, she was blessed to have a mother trained by Gana Saraswati Kishori Amonkar. She has ensured this legacy is not an inheritance of loss but one of unparalleled gains.

Her music is best understood by paying attention to its intricacies. For example, her taans are truly unique — she not only employs complex patterns, but the repetition of swaras or notes is distinctly her own.

Here is a sample from her rendition of the ever-classic Raga Yaman.

In recent years, she has been exploring lesser-known ragas and taals, giving us performances that are truly unique in the Hindustani music scene.

Please join us on May 2nd, 2026 to experience this music.

The story of IPAAC

04/01/2026

We are excited to share a thoughtful reflection by Jonathan Marmor on LinkedIn about the upcoming IPAAC 2026 Season—especially the highly anticipated concert by Dr. Ashwini Bhide Deshpande on May 2nd.

Jonathan beautifully captures the artistic depth and cultural significance of this event, and why it is such a rare opportunity for our Charlotte community:

“Then the third — and possibly the most interesting — is Saturday, May 2nd at the Davie Park Rec Center in South Charlotte. Hindustani female vocalist Ashwini Deshpande is just amazingly good. It’s an incredibly rare treat to get to hear a musician of this quality in such an intimate setting – it’s a real stroke of luck for us in Charlotte that the audience for Indian music here is small, otherwise you would need to be a disciple in her inner circle to have this close up experience. Deshpande is also an interesting figure. In addition to her music career, she has a PhD in biochemistry. In this lovely Mira Bhajan – a Hindu devotional classical song written by a woman saint, Mirabai – she introduces the performance with a short story of women’s empowerment: Ashwini Bhide Deshpande: Mira Bhajan in Raag Bhairavi”

If you are passionate about Indian classical music—or simply want to support meaningful cultural experiences in our community—this is truly a special event you will not want to miss.
