As we celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, we’re proud to recognize the Latina/e/o/x leaders whose experiences, talents and commitment strengthen our organization and our community.

Today, we’re celebrating Anthony Valderrama, manager of Unite Charlotte, who was recently selected as a 2026 LatinxEd Education Leaders Pathways Fellow.

Anthony shared that the experience has challenged him to think more deeply about the interconnected systems we navigate and how leaders, educators and community members can create meaningful change within them.

That commitment is reflected in his work with Unite Charlotte, which strengthens grassroots organizations led by people of color through funding, capacity-building and leadership development. Together with our neighbors and community partners, Anthony helps create stronger neighborhoods where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

Over hundred .energy employees. Eleven thousand hygiene kits. One shared commitment to supporting hardworking families across Charlotte-Mecklenburg.

We are incredibly grateful to Duke Energy for helping make this impact possible. These kits provide essential items to local residents who work hard every day but may still struggle to afford the basics.

For 95 years, United Way of Greater Charlotte has stood alongside our community. We know that having a job does not always mean having financial stability. One medical emergency or unexpected expense can put everyday necessities out of reach.

Supporting working families is not a one-day effort. It requires a lasting commitment from our entire community, and we are thankful to partners like Duke Energy for continuing this important work with us.

⏰ REMINDER: The Unite Charlotte application deadline is approaching!

Grassroots nonprofits are doing essential work across Charlotte-Mecklenburg, and Unite Charlotte is here to help strengthen that work.

Through funding, capacity-building and leadership development, Unite Charlotte supports nonprofits as they grow their impact and continue serving our community.

Eligible Mecklenburg County nonprofits with annual operating budgets between $500,000 and $2 million are encouraged to apply.

Applications close Friday, September 25, 2026.

Twenty-five years ago, our nation experienced a tragedy that forever changed countless lives. Today, we pause to remember those we lost on September 11, 2001, the families who continue to carry their absence and the first responders and everyday people who demonstrated extraordinary courage and compassion.​

Their legacy reminds us that when neighbors care for one another,
neighborhoods grow stronger and entire communities move forward.​

For 95 years, United Way of Greater Charlotte has worked alongside residents and community partners to support working families, strengthen
neighborhoods and create opportunities for everyone to thrive. That
commitment continues today.​

May we honor this day through service, compassion and a shared commitment to building a community where everyone belongs.​
