For Black Maternal Mental Health Week, I got to attend the screening of Held & Healing: A Changemaker’s Story … everyone NEEDS to see it.

There is something so powerful about a woman fighting for her own freedom, then turning around and using her life to help other women find theirs.

, thank you for never giving up. Thank you for using your story, your voice and your life to make a difference.

THIS is Rehabilitating YourLife!

I loved this girl talk moment at Johnson C. Smith University’s 8th Annual Black Mental Health & Wellness Symposium entitled: Disrupting the Narrative: Reimagining Black Mental Health & Wellness.

Our panel centered on supporting Black girls and young adults in community.

It was great hearing so many diverse perspectives and catching up with my Mecklenburg County Council of Elders peeps.

At some point you realize…

You didn’t build a personality.
You built a coping strategy.

Responsible
Independent
Unbothered
High-achieving
It worked

It helped you survive
But survival isn’t identity
The real question is:

Who are you outside of coping?

You don’t “find” yourself.

You rehabilitate the parts of you that had to survive.

Then you choose your adulthood.

I’m grateful to have been invited to provide continuing education to our County's detention center staff.

Facilitating group sessions with the residents is an added honor.

The heart of everything I do is rehabilitation, so I’m excited to roll up my sleeves to dig in and do meaningful work.

If releasing your young adult feels harder than you expected, you’re not alone. This stage isn’t hard because you failed. It’s hard because the role changed.

Most parents were prepared to manage childhood.
Very few were prepared to navigate the launch season.

The Capacity Equation Reset gives you a clear structure for this transition — so you can lead with clarity instead of anxiety.

No shame
No blame
No guilt
Just assessment, calibration, and purposeful support.

Inside, you’ll learn how to assess:

• Regulation
• Skill
• Load
• Recovery

So you can respond intentionally, not urgently.

This is a 90-minute guided framework + application lab designed to help you support independence without over-functioning.

Preorder is now open. Full access begins March 6.

Comment RESET (YES, DM IS FINE TOO) and I’ll send you the sign up link.

It’s National Eating Disorders Awareness Week.

And in our community, the conversation isn't had often enough.

Eating disorders don’t always look like what we were taught. They don’t always look like extreme thinness. They don’t always look like hospitalization. They don’t always look like what we see on TV.

Sometimes they look like:
• Discipline
• “Resetting”
• Spiritual fasting
• Bariatric success
• High achievement
• Strength

And sometimes, they look like silence.

Black women are underdiagnosed.
Black girls are dismissed.
Black men are overlooked.
Shrinking is rewarded.
Control is applauded.
Endurance is expected.
But health is more than a smaller body.

If food controls your mood…
If the scale determines your worth…
If you’re always “starting over”…

That isn’t failure.

It may be a sign you deserve support.

Awareness is protection. Silence is not.

As a therapist, I work with women navigating disordered eating, body image distress, and identity shifts around food and weight.
If this post felt personal, that’s not a coincidence.
Support is available. Healing is possible. And you do not have to untangle this alone.

Reach out!

Last week I had the privilege of facilitating two parent workshops on capacity building.

What I’ve discovered in my 20-year career is this:

When a young adult is struggling, we often misread capacity as character.

If releasing your young adult feels harder than you expected…

It’s not a motivation problem.
It’s a capacity shift.

Most parents were never prepared for the identity transition that happens when the role changes.
And when we misread capacity as character, we:

Overcorrect.
We push harder.
We lecture more.
We rescue faster.

But the framework I’m teaching here breaks it down clearly:

Capacity = Regulation × Skill × Load × Recovery

When one variable drops, everything looks like
“motivation.”

If you’re navigating the launch season, I created a 60-minute Parent Capacity Reset that walks you through this step-by-step.

Comment “RESET” and I’ll send the link.

Self-Care Sunday Reminder:

We are often responding to subtle stimulation all day long, not just major stressors.

The nervous system does not differentiate between
🚨 real threat
📱 constant alerts
⏳ ongoing urgency

If you feel tired, reactive, or overstimulated… it may not be a personal failing.

It may be accumulation.

Self-care is how we return the body to safety.

Today’s practice:
• Step outside for 5 minutes
• Slow your breathing
• Silence one notification
• Put your hand on your chest and pause

Regulation is not luxury.

It’s capacity building.
