🍳 Help Us Cook Up the Power of 11 Breakfast! 🍳

Eleven years ago, Galilee started with a kitchen and a handful of volunteers. This month, we’re heading back to that kitchen to prepare a celebration breakfast for our community, and we’d love your help! 💛

Food Preparation Mornings
🗓️ Monday, October 19 & Tuesday, October 20
⏰ 9:00 AM–12:30 PM
📍 Galilee Ministries, 3601 Central Avenue

Come for one morning or both. No cooking experience needed, just willing hands and a joyful spirit. Some of Saturday’s fig harvest may even make it onto the menu! 🍈
Volunteers are also needed for roles before, during, and after the breakfast on Wednesday, October 21. ✨

🌿 Garden Spruce-Up Day is back on this Saturday! 🌿

Last weekend’s workday was washed out by the remnants of Hurricane Isaias, but Saturday’s forecast is sunny and 64°. ☀️ Let’s get the grounds ready to welcome everyone to the Power of 11 Breakfast!

🗓️ Saturday, October 17
⏰ 8:30 AM–Noon
📍 Galilee Ministries, 3601 Central Avenue

Here’s what we’ll tackle together:
🌳 Plant four crepe myrtles
🌸 Refresh the Memorial Garden beds
🌱 Plant ground cover by the new bench
🪨 Install edging along the gravel walk
🍈 Harvest ripe figs for the Power of 11 Breakfast!
🎤 At 10 AM, Certified Master Gardener Jen Hilzinger will present Onions and Garlic: Winter-Hardy Crops for Early Summer Harvests.

No gardening experience needed. Many hands make light work! 🙌 Bring water, gloves, a hat, sunscreen, and a layer for the crisp morning. 🧤

Join us for our first Outdoor Spruce-Up Day on Saturday, October 10, 8:30 AM–Noon. We'll plant a pollinator garden, spread pine straw in the Meditation Garden, tend the blueberry bushes, and plant donated ferns, hostas, azaleas, and more.
🎤 At 10 AM, Certified Master Gardener Deb Jung will share a talk on Cover Cropping for Healthier Soil.

So far in 2026:
🤲 2,330 neighbors served by Lydia's Pantry, more than 7x as many as the same months last year
🍞 860 loaves of Italian bread baked and shared (March–August)
🍲 660 quarts of soup in 10 delicious varieties (March–August)
👶 2,400 diapers distributed (July–August)
⏱️ 4,250 volunteer hours logged (January–August), worth an estimated $144,500 in time given.

Those numbers tell two stories. More families in East Charlotte are looking for support, and more of you are showing up to meet that need. 🙏

✋ Many Hands Make a Celebration! ✋
There's a lot to do before the Power of 11 breakfast, and on the big day itself! Here's where you can lend a hand:
🌿 Outdoor Spruce-Up Days: This Saturday, October 10 & Saturday, October 17, 8:30 AM–Noon
We'll be planting a pollinator garden, refreshing pine straw in the Meditation Garden, planting crepe myrtles, tending the Memorial Garden, and more. Each day includes a 10 AM talk from a Certified Master Gardener! Bring water, gloves, a hat, and sunscreen.

🥞 Eleven years ago, Galilee opened its doors with little more than a kitchen, a handful of volunteers, and the belief that there would always be enough to go around. This October, we're celebrating that 11th year with a breakfast built on the same belief, that abundance grows when a community chooses to share it. Our goal is $100,000 by the end of 2026, and this breakfast is one of the biggest steps toward getting there. 🗓️ Save the date: Wednesday, October 21 ⏰ 10–11 AM 📍 Galilee.
