🚧 🚘 🚴 NCDOT has plans for improving US-74 / Independence Blvd. from 485 in Matthews to I-277 in Uptown. The plan is comprised of several components aimed at alleviating congestion and shortening travel times, including...

✔️ Improving interchanges and overpasses (like Sardis Rd. N. and Village Lake Dr) and possibly removing traffic signals on US-74 to keep traffic moving.

✔️ Extending the network of local roads that run parallel to US-74.

✔️ Building express lanes in the medians — from I-277 to Idlewild — to connect US-74 to the greater network of express lanes already planned for Charlotte.

✔️ Opening the previously dormant bus lanes (to buses).

✔️ Widening from four to six lanes near 485/Matthews.

TIMELINE:
The plan is a doozy, with projects inside of projects all at different funding and design phases, but NCDOT says groundbreaking could be as early as 2027.

🚦INPUT:
If you missed the public meeting at East Meck HS a few weeks ago, there’s still time to ask questions and to give comment. Deadline for feedback on this particular phase is Aug. 9.

The beloved Tudor-style mansion on Sardis Rd. has been purchased.

“As a native Charlottean, I have admired this historic property since I was a child growing up in the neighborhood,” said Daniel Levine, president of Levine Properties. "While we have no specific plans for it at this time, the main goal is to preserve the integrity of the home and discover the best use for the property."

Levine Properties has announced the purchase of “Akers Acres,” a 6.45-acre estate located at 6501 Sardis Road in South Charlotte. The home, a Tudor revival
