We had a great turnout at the Iftar yesterday. What a great atmosphere and great mix of people. Some pics are posted below, I hope you put up more soon. Below is part of the speech that I presented to everyone yesterday, which is something we must all act upon:
Human connection is the foundation for peace. If we have the opposite - disconnection, it will lead to division, and even worse, conflict. We see it or read about it every day, it happens between classes, races, and religions. We have seen it in Charleston, Ferguson, Baltimore, Sandy Hook, Columbine, and the list goes on and on. We have also seen the opposite, people coming together and supporting each other, uniting against hate and bigotry. To me, nothing on this earth is more powerful than the human connection.
Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) once said: "All mankind is from Adam and Eve, an Arab has no superiority over a non-Arab nor a non-Arab has any superiority over an Arab; also a white has no superiority over a black nor a black has any superiority over a white - except by piety and good action." In other words, All Lives Matter. We can all agree on this.
You may have heard this before, but I would like to emphasize that we need to get up and meet people we do not usually meet with, outside our social gatherings, and get to know one another. This should not be a one-time occurrence; we need to continue the conversation and find solutions, together, that can be implemented in our communities.
We need to inspire and be inspired. We need to push our body and mind to do what our heart wants, because all it wants is good. Don’t be afraid to take action; even if you are, do it afraid. Great connections and stories come from people who embark on the journey, on the journey to peace.
To sum it all in one word- Connect.
