The Problem: Gender bias in the media, often manifested in derogatory, stereotyped, or hypersexualized ways, can negatively affect social views and ultimately the activity concerning women’s equality, rights, and dignity. The negative effects of the misrepresentation of women in the media cut across race, class, religion, and nationality. The Solution: To think more broadly and critically about wh

at we read and see, to uncover the authentic stories behind the news. Accurate and authentic representation of women and girls will lead to a more egalitarian future. Mission Success: Full success for Think Broader is positive change in the status of women worldwide, by promoting equality of all individuals. We believe that the unconscious gender bias perpetuated by various media venues is a primary contributor to the actions that most frequently result in women’s inequality. Thus, changing media behavior to proactively combat gender bias – both overt and unconscious – is a viable method by which to change social behavior.

Our Mission

The Problem: Implicit and explicit bias in the media cut across race, class, religion, and nationality. Subtle forms of bias are often manifested in derogatory, stereotyped, or hypersexualized ways in story selection, framing and stereotyping and can negatively affect public policy and ultimately the activity concerning “others’” equality, rights, and dignity. The Solution: We utilize big data analysis and creative content development (virtual reality, positive imagery, storytelling) to galvanize broader awareness and critical thinking about advertising, news, and the silver screen.
