The Grange will be hosting a Hybrid Town Meeting Open Forum next TUESDAY (please note that the incorrect date was posted to Front Porch Forum yesterday. This event will be on Tuesday June 16th).

Come listen and share your goals for a hybrid town meeting with Selectboard members JD Herlihy and Troy Krahl.

At this year’s Town Meeting, there was considerable interest in the town residents for Charlotte to find a means to have a Hybrid Town Meeting combining the traditional in-person meeting with an Australian Ballot vote. Charlotte has had a Hybrid model previously, but the provisions used to implement them has expired. The intent of this gathering is for Selectboard members JD and Troy to hear from residents in a venue and process that allows for an open civil discussion on the topic. They would like to gain insight into what residents are looking to get out of a Hybrid Town Meeting, some ideas on how this may be accomplished, and then thinking through the pitfalls and benefits of the different avenues.

This will be a hybrid event. Come in person or use the link below:

Memorial Day Gathering and Flag Placing:

Please join us at Grandview Cemetery on May 25, Memorial Day morning, at 9:00am. A short ceremony will include remarks from Charlotte Veteran Jordan Paquette and a rendition of "Taps" by CCS student musician Ben Vincent. After the ceremony, interested folks will help place flags on the graves of those who served and/or died in military service. This annual tradition has been held by the Charlotte Grange for many years and is an opportunity for the community to come together and show our respect and appreciation. All are welcome to join us for the ceremony, to place flags, or both! We hope to see you there.

Also, again this year, the Grange will be collecting your worn-out flags to be properly retired through the American Legion. If you have a flag you’d like to properly dispose of, please feel free to drop it off at the Charlotte Grange Hall (2858 Spear St) between May 15th and June 7th in the covered bin on the front porch.

For more information, visit https://www.charlottegrange.org/memorial-day

Grandview Cemetery is located at 403 Church Hill Road behind the Congregational Church in Charlotte.

The Grange has been offered a $10,000 matching grant but we need your help! If we raise all the funds needed to match this offer, we will be able to complete the exterior restoration of the building. WHY YOU SHOULD CONSIDER HELPING US:

1. The 1870 Grange building on Spear St. is one of Charlotte's remaining historic one room school houses and important to our shared history. The work being done will make the building safer and include much-needed repairs.

2. We work hard to fundraise to support the building and all the public, community-building programs that the Grange sponsors but we can't do it without community support. Think walks, free coffee and muffins, poetry gatherings, Candidate's nights, Grange on the Green music, clothing drives for the Food Shelf and Migrant Workers, a farm map, educational programs and more.

3. This amazing matching grant gets us almost to the finish line but we need to raise $10,000 more to match the offer and complete the exterior work.

Please consider helping us and if you already have, we want to thank you again!

Donations can be sent to Friends of the Lyceum Schoolhouse (FLS), PO Box 236, Charlotte.

Interested in the history of Charlotte Grange Hall and in historic preservation? Join us at the Grange (2858 Spear Street) on April 21st from 6:30 – 8:00 pm to hear about the history of this historic building.

We will have a presentation by Dan Cole, President of the Charlotte Historical Society and Aileen Williams, M.S. in Historic Preservation about current work to have the Hall listed on the National Register of Historic Places. New insights into the history of this historic building have come about because of Aileen’s year-long project to nominate the building for listing on the Register. Dan has been incredibly helpful with the project and knows the wonderful twists and turns that saw the building operate as a debating society, one-room school and Grange meeting place. We will have a chance to ask questions and refreshments will be served.

Should our parking lot fill up, please park at the Catholic Church just south of the Grange, by the fence. Follow the orange cones. Kindly stay home if you are feeling sick and mask up if you have been exposed to someone with a contagious respiratory ailment.

Co-presented with .vt and the Charlotte Historical Society.
