Good day CDCCOS family ... the following letter was released July 1, 2020 from the National Committee regarding a new online option for the Ad Altare Dei emblem program. A full description of the latest requirements for the emblem can be found on the NCCS webpage, http://www.nccs-bsa.org/index.php/religious-emblems/ad-altare-dei
==========

Dear Catholic Scouter, Diocesan Chair and Diocesan Chaplains,

The National Catholic Committee on Scouting and the Emblems Committee are pleased to announce that the Ad Altare Dei Youth Manual is now available in an interactive, electronic format (e-AAD). Given the current situation related to the Covid-19 pandemic, Stay-at-Home orders, quarantining in some areas and the advent of Zoom and other virtual meeting venues, this is an ideal time to make this electronic Ad Altare Dei Youth Manual (e-AAD) available. This electronic format is a “copy” of the printed version. The original content of the program has not been changed or altered. The entire workbook has been programmed so that Scouts can work on the manual and send their answers to their counselor and the counselor can review the answers anytime. A counselor can still use the printed version if they feel more comfortable with it.

Each Ad Altare Dei participant has access to their own manual for their individual use. The e-AAD Manual is not intended to replace group meetings and discussions but is simply an alternative method for Scouts to use to record their answers. Features include:

The AAD Youth manual is web-based. Access can be gained via Wi-Fi or a “hot spot.”
A Scout can use Apple or Windows software. Electronic devices such as a desktop PC, laptop, tablet, notebook, iPad and Smartphone can also be used to access the workbook.
Voice to text features can be utilized if compatible with their device.
The counselor can create reports on the status of the group as a whole or individual Scouts.

You are invited to a Zoom Webinar on the new e-AAD. Participants will learn about the structure and features of the new e-AAD, how to navigate the e-AAD manual from both the counselor and the scout perspectives and the steps to setting up groups using the e-AAD. This will be an excellent training program for not only the diocesan religious emblem training committee but also for trained religious emblem counselors in their diocese. With today’s social distancing restrictions, this is a great way to help scouts grow in their faith. The Webinar will be on July 11th at 11:00am East Coast Time.

The e-AAD youth and counselor e-AAD and manual are available at https://www.nccs-bsa.org/store/product-category/electronic-version/

We would like to thank Mark Healy and Kathy Polowski from the Diocese of the Phoenix Catholic Committee on Scouting. They developed the manual starting in 2014 and have been testing the electronic version in several dioceses since 2016. We are extremely excited to see this modern-day tool made available for scouts and counselors to use while working on the Ad Altare Dei religious emblem program.
Please forward this to your distribution lists.

A posting regarding 2019 Catholic Camporee released January 6, 2019 if you are not on our GoogleGroup distribution list....

Dear Catholic Scouters,
We are happy to announce that plans for the 2019 Catholic Camporee are coming together well.
As announced previously, the 2019 Camporee is scheduled for April 5-7 at Camp Grimes. This will be our first Camporee at Camp Grimes since the dining hall fire in November 2016. A new dining hall has been constructed in its place and will be a fine facility for the Camporee.
Bishop Jugis is again confirmed to celebrate Mass with us Sunday morning.
The Camporee theme will center around Holy Angels, the Belmont, NC ministry of the Sisters of Mercy whose mission is to provide compassionate, dependable care and opportunities for high-quality living to those with intellectual developmental disabilities and delicate medical conditions through physical, social, spiritual,
educational, vocational and emotional support.
In addition to being the theme for the Camporee, Holy Angels will be the centerpiece of the religious activity for both the cub scouts and boy scouts. Dennis Kuhn, Executive Director and Chaplain at Holy Angels, is adapting a program he uses to tell the Holy Angels story in schools for us at the Camporee. The program will be
interactive and engaging for all.
We are pleased to announce that Steve Hughes, past Cubmaster at St. Patrick Pack 9 in Charlotte, has agreed to serve as Camporee cubmaster, and Richard Cashman, scoutmaster of Troop 288 at St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church in Charlotte, has agreed to serve as Camporee scoutmaster. Christie Silvestri, Venturing advisor at Crew 12, St. John Neumann in Charlotte will again serve as Venturing advisor for the Camporee. And the wonderful cook team, led by Orvel Schrum from Troop 8 at St. Matthew in Charlotte is looking forward to having the new kitchen at Camp Grimes to keep all the hungry Camporee campers well fed! Please look forward to hearing from Steve, Richard, Christie and Orvel as they work to finalize Camporee activities and adult staffing.
As in recent years, we will again welcome Girl Scout and American Heritage Girl units to join us for the Camporee.
We look forward to another fun Camporee in 2019 where we can come together in the spirit of Scouting to celebrate our Catholic faith. Please share this announcement with any others in your units who may not be on the CDCCOS email distribution list.

God Bless,
Mike Nielsen - Chair CDCCOS
Deacon Martin Ricart III - Chaplain CDCCOS

Diocesan Scouting family, please join us in prayer for the repose of the soul of Ginny King who passed onto the Lord July 10th. A friend to youth and adults alike, especially in the St. John Neumann and St. Luke's Scouting and Venture program families, she will be greatly missed. Ginny touched many lives in the Mecklenburg County Council who knew her through various committees, Wood Badge, & the Order of the Arrow.
