Fall fun can look different for everyone. 🍂

Some children enjoy scooping out a pumpkin. Others prefer decorating the outside. Some love the crunch of fallen leaves; others would rather explore their colors at a table.

At Autism Charlotte, we recognize that each child brings individual interests, preferences, and sensory needs. That same approach can help families make seasonal activities more welcoming: offer choices, provide tools for sticky textures, and allow time to watch before joining in.

Whether it’s painting a pumpkin or arranging colorful leaves, there’s more than one way to enjoy fall together.

Different ways of thinking bring valuable strengths to our community. đź’™

Autism Charlotte was proud to co-host Dr. Temple Grandin’s “Autism: The Way I See It” on September 26 at The Pearl in Charlotte. The event explored practical supports for autistic individuals, the value of mentors, and the importance of recognizing different thinking styles.

At Autism Charlotte, we believe support begins with understanding each person’s strengths, interests, and needs. Through our programs, we help participants build skills, make connections, and discover opportunities to thrive.

Recent news here in the Charlotte area has brought attention to an important concern for many autism families: wandering, also known as elopement.

For some autistic children, wandering can happen quickly and unexpectedly, making awareness, preparation, and communication especially important.

At Autism Charlotte, safety is a priority across our programs. We recognize that every child has individual needs, and we work to create structured, supportive environments where children can learn, participate, and build greater independence while their safety remains at the forefront.

That means knowing the children in our care, maintaining consistent routines and supervision, communicating with families, and understanding individual behaviors and needs that may affect safety.

Stories about wandering are an important reminder that keeping children safe takes a team—families, teachers, caregivers, and communities working together.

Awareness matters. Preparation matters. And above all, safety matters.

Something as simple as playing with animal figurines can create opportunities to practice communication, imagination, fine motor skills, matching and sorting, following directions, and taking turns.

A new school year is a new opportunity to learn, grow, build confidence, and make meaningful connections—and Autism Charlotte is here to help!

We’re currently enrolling for three of our programs:

🎓 Stage One Academy – A supportive preschool program designed to help young learners build foundational skills and prepare for success in school.

📚 After-School Academy – A place for K–12 students to strengthen social skills, receive academic support, enjoy recreational activities, and build friendships in a supportive environment.

🌟 PATHS Academy – A program for young adults focused on building independence, social skills, job readiness, and real-world life skills.

Whether your child is taking their first steps into school, needs support after the school day, or is preparing for greater independence, Autism Charlotte has a place for them.
