Today, law enforcement officials announced developments in the investigation into the antisemitic incident that occurred in January 2026, which involved the placement of signage containing N**i imagery across Shalom Park campus. Shalom Park is home to schools, places of worship, community organizations, and gathering spaces used by thousands of people each year.
Dalton Ray Mullis, 24, of Indian Land, S.C., was arrested on Thursday on a criminal complaint and appeared in court today before U.S. Magistrate Judge David C. Keesler. Charging documents also allege that between January and April 2026, Mullis posted antisemitic messages and imagery on multiple social media sites. If convicted, he faces a statutory maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.
The conduct described in the charges was intended to intimidate, threaten, and unsettle members of the Jewish community.
For many in our community, the presence of antisemitic symbols on a campus that serves Jewish children, families, and organizations was deeply painful and disturbing. While the materials were removed quickly, their impact on many members of our community lasted far longer. We remain committed to supporting those who were impacted and to ensuring that Jewish Charlotte continues to be a place where people can gather, learn, celebrate, and live Jewishly with confidence.
Our community is grateful to the FBI, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, and our local, state, and federal partners for pursuing the investigation with diligence and care. Today’s announcement demonstrates that acts of antisemitic intimidation will be investigated thoroughly and treated with the seriousness they deserve.
We will continue to invest in security, preparedness, and strong partnerships with law enforcement to help ensure our community remains safe and secure. We remain committed to the safety, security, and well-being of our community. Acts of antisemitism seek to isolate and intimidate. Our response remains what it has always been: to stand together, support one another, and continue building a strong, vibrant Jewish future.
