The Lunch Project

The Lunch Project We power community-run school lunch programs in Tanzania, giving students the fuel to learn. With your help we can all make an an impact, one bowl at a time.

We are passionate about involving the local community in our lunch programs. All ingredients for uji porridge are purchased from local farmers to encourage sustainability. The children bring firewood from their homes and carry buckets of clean water from the local well to school. Jobs are created as parents are hired to cook the porridge over the open fire, serving the meal to the children in cups

they bring from home. Get your local community involved and make a make a big impact globally. $100 per day provides lunch for an entire school, which breaks down to less than a dime per student. How will you fill the bowl?

Today Ilkurot Primary School as per their request to improve the learning environment and school feeding program, had a kitchen shed officially handed over. The handover ceremony was punctuated by joyous music from the school choir, faces beaming with pride from the school kids, teachers, cooks including words of gratitude from the community leadership: *Village Chair* Innocent Lorinyu - _We congratulate you for your efforts in partnering with our community to improve the quality of education through a nutritious feeding program that allows our scholars to concentrate in class and reach for their dreams without distractions of hunger and lack of food._

Students at Olbaki sing a song of gratitude!!

Lyrics below, translated by our dear Ernest Philemon

1. WE ARE GRATEFUL TO OUR FRIENDS FOR SEEING IT NECESSARY FOR US TO GET NUTRIENTS. A CLEAN PORRIDGE IS BEING PREPARED ON A MODERN COOKER. WE GET OUR STUDIES WITHOUT ANY PROBLEM.

*CHORUS*
OUR BELOVED FRIENDS, MAY GOD GRANT YOU LIVES WITH GOOD HEALTH SO THAT YOU CAN CONTINUE TO HELP US. MAY YOUR POCKETS BE FULL AND MAY GOD FILL YOUR POCKETS WHERE YOU HAVE USED IT FOR US.

2. MAY GOD GRANT YOU A GREAT HEART. CONTINUE WITH YOUR LOVE, WE HAVE NOTHING TO PAY YOU BACK. WE, THE OLBAK PUPILS KEEP ON BEING HEALTHY WITH GOOD PERFOMANCE IN THE CLASS.

*CHORUS*

3. WE GET NUTRIENTS THROUGH CLEAN AND SWEET PORRIDGE, WE HAVE NO DOUBT WHILE IN CLASSES. OUR PARENTS ARE GRATEFUL WHEN WE GET BACK HOME BECAUSE THEY SEE OUR FACES ARE BRIGHT.

*CHORUS*

The sun is poking over the horizon across the US, but our team in Tanzania is busy putting some final touches on an upgraded kitchen at Olbaki Primary School!
Grants from our incredible partners have helped make this possible, but donations from individuals like you help to buy supplies from local providers, pay the mamas, and put food in the bellies of students in 6 schools - helping to lift an entire community one dime at a time. www.thelunchproject.com/donate

Giving Kids The Fuel To Learn

We power community-driven lunch programs in Tanzania, feeding over 4,000 students at 5 schools. $100 per day provides lunch for an entire school, which breaks down to less than a dime per student. Schools with lunch programs see their average attendance rise and test scores improve.
