Early morning start working on the Exploration Merit Badge! Today our Scouts learned the difference between adventure and exploration while planning a future outdoor trip.
The crew is preparing for an exciting outing to Galax, Virginia, where they'll paddle an 8.5-mile section of the scenic New River, explore the trails at New River State Park, and discover some of the area's beautiful waterfalls.
Planning is a key part of every successful adventure, and these Scouts are building the skills they'll use to safely explore the outdoors for years to come. 🛶🥾🌿

Three of our Scouts spent the past six days at 🏕️ NYLT Camp, backpacking three miles each day, cooking their own meals on the trail, and building valuable leadership and teamwork skills.
Throughout the week, they challenged themselves, gained confidence, and learned that a successful Scout has a vision and the ability to set meaningful goals. Graduation was filled with smiles, laughter, and the celebration of new friendships formed with Scouts from other troops.
We are incredibly proud of their hard work, perseverance, and commitment to growing as leaders. Congratulations on an amazing accomplishment! 👏⚜️

Boy Scout Summer Camp at Camp Grimes is officially in the books! 🏕️

What a week of adventure, growth, and memories these Scouts will never forget. Ticks, chigger bites, spiders, minor injuries, “prison food,” the infamous Cardiac Arrest Hill, and even thunderstorms couldn’t slow them down.

They definitely worked their leaders hard this week, but every mile hiked, every challenge conquered, and every late-night moment was worth it in the end. Watching these Scouts grow in confidence, leadership, and resilience is what it’s all about.

They earned merit badges, completed rank requirements, finished a conservation project, logged hiking miles and community service hours, and achieved the highest campsite cleanliness score our troop has ever received!

From the polar plunge, p**p soup, rock climbing, the fishing tournament, mile swim, candle making, tie-dye, troop games, Friday night’s concert, and Aquapalooza, every day brought a new adventure.

The laughter, teamwork, perseverance, and friendships made this week unforgettable. So incredibly proud of these boys and everything they accomplished. ⚜️💙

Another productive day for our troop! 🌟

Some of our Scouts tackled the Public Speaking MB, building confidence and learning the value of effective communication. Others explored the Mining in Society MB, gaining a deeper appreciation for the history, science, and impact of mining on our communities.

Both groups had an incredible day filled with learning, discovery, and hands-on experiences. It’s amazing to see our Scouts growing their skills while creating lasting memories. Proud of all they accomplished! ⚜️👏

Our Troop is enjoying a beautiful Friday in Columbia, SC, working on the Forestry Merit Badge! 🌲🍃 It’s been a day full of learning, exploring nature, and gaining a greater appreciation for our forests and the role they play in our environment. Scouting adventures are always better outdoors! Great work boys!!

This morning, our Pack and Troop 490 leaders came together to plan for the year ahead. We worked on next year’s calendar, discussed finances, and talked about leadership and volunteer opportunities. A strong Scouting program is built by dedicated volunteers, and we’re excited for another great year of adventure, growth, and service!
