Juneteenth reminds us that freedom is not just a moment in history. It is a promise that each generation is called to understand, protect, and expand.

Today, we commemorate June 19, 1865, when news of emancipation finally reached enslaved people in Texas, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued. We honor the resilience, contributions, and achievements of African Americans whose stories continue to shape our nation and our community.

At Charlotte Museum of History, we believe history has the power to connect us, challenge us, and inspire us. As we celebrate Juneteenth, we invite you to reflect on the stories that brought us here and the work that remains ahead.

Happy Juneteenth from all of us at Charlotte Museum of History.
