Official Ribbon Cutting for the Eaton Rapids Food Lockers!

“Today is about partnership and what can happen when organizations come together around a shared goal making sure our community members have easier access to food.

These lockers are more than just a place to store food. They are an innovative community tool that helps increase access outside of traditional pantry hours, reduces barriers like transportation and scheduling, and allows organizations to meet people where they are with greater flexibility and dignity.

This project would not have been possible without an incredible group of collaborative partners.

Thank you to the Community Foundation for supporting this work through grant funding and believing in innovative community solutions with us.

Thank you to University of Michigan Health Sparrow and Eaton Rapids Medical Center for your partnership and commitment to improving community health in new and innovative ways.

Thank you to the Greater Lansing Food Bank for helping ensure these lockers can be stocked and operational and safe.

Thank you to the 22 community organizations, including Hearts and Hands Food Pantry, that are already utilizing the lockers to connect residents with food and resources. Your daily work is what truly brings this project to life.

And a special thank you to First United Methodist Church Eaton Rapids for serving as the host site and opening your space to support the community in this way.

Eaton Community Health is proud to serve as the facilitator of this locker program. Part of our role in this community is helping to bring partners together, supporting innovative solutions, and shifting systems to improve the health and wellbeing of our community.

These lockers are an incredible and tangible example of what is possible when collaboration leads the way.

We are excited to see the impact these lockers will continue to have for Eaton Rapids residents and families across the community.“

Eaton Community Health hosted a Board and Staff development opportunity with Dr. Pennie Foster-Fishman deepening our understanding of our role as a backbone organization in systems change work.

A collective impact backbone organization plays a critical role in systems change by bringing partners together around a shared vision and keeping the work aligned and moving forward. By connecting people, resources, and data, a backbone organization helps shift the focus upstream, addressing root causes and creating lasting impact in the community.

We are committed to working “Upstream” in Eaton County
