As we close Bike Month, we are excited to highlight one of our T1D families - the Vennemann's!

For Kylie, the Breakthrough T1D Ride is a family mission. With both her husband and son living with type 1 diabetes, she rides to push toward a future where their daily challenges no longer exist.

2026 will mark her 5th Breakthrough T1D Ride in four years and her most meaningful yet as her son Chance joins her in Amelia Island!

Chance shared what this milestone means to him:
“I’ve gotten to the age where I wanted to help out in a bigger way — not just volunteer anymore.”

Together, they are turning purpose into momentum and momentum into hope. Cheering on this incredible mother‑son team as they take on the season ahead!

Want to join Kylie and Chance in Amelia Island or one of our other Breakthrough T1D Rides? Reach out to Danielle Hayes ([email protected]) for more information!

Meet Morgan! 💙

Morgan has lived with T1D for almost 15 years and is now a PA student at Wingate University with dreams of becoming a pediatric endocrinologist. She is passionate about diabetes awareness and helping others feel seen and supported.

Morgan grew up participating in Breakthrough T1D (Formerly JDRF) Walks with her family, but wanted to get even more involved which led her to the Young Adult Advocacy Council. Through the council, she has met other young adults with T1D from across the country and has loved volunteering at Charlotte events like the Summit, Gala, and Walk.

A myth she wants to bust: people with T1D can’t eat certain foods. With carb counting and insulin dosing, people with T1D can eat anything. Every person manages diabetes differently, and that is completely okay!

Her advice for supporting the T1D community? Learn, ask questions, carry low snacks, and join in on Breakthrough T1D events. Advocacy looks different for everyone and even small actions make a big difference.

Thank you, Morgan for all you for our T1D community!

Jennifer’s connection to T1D began when her daughter Rain was diagnosed at age 3. Now an adult, Rain continues to navigate the daily realities of T1D and Jennifer rides to bring her, and others living with T1D, closer to a future with cures.

She has completed four rides across Amelia Island, Saratoga, and Cape Cod, and in 2026 she’s returning to Amelia Island, the place where she and her husband finished their first 100‑mile ride together.

Jennifer rides in honor of Missy Maag, the friend who believed in her and recruited her into the Ride family. They rode together for three years before Missy passed away from pancreatic cancer. This season is both a tribute and a chance to make new memories.

What she loves most about the Ride program is the commitment it requires. “Training for months helps me reflect on the challenges Rain and others with T1D face, challenges that don’t get an end point. I ride to bring them one.”

Her favorite reminder from last season came at Cape Cod, when she didn’t complete the full route but crossed the finish with the lead peloton: “The number of miles doesn’t matter; it’s how you finish.”

Want to join Jennifer and other riders for a Breakthrough T1D ride this year? Reach out to Danielle at [email protected] for more info!
