We're excited to learn from Carrie and all of our other breakout speakers on Friday!

Weโ€™re excited to share that our Director of Construction, Carrie Black, will speak at the 2026 Annual Aging Conference on October 16!

With a background in fall prevention and a heart for helping older adults remain safe, healthy, and independent in their homes, Carrie brings practical insight to the conversation.

Her talk will highlight everyday home hazards and the simple, hands-on steps homeowners can take to make their homes safer and more accessible.

For those of you who have registered, bring a notebook. Youโ€™re going to want to take notes!

Weโ€™re especially proud to see our staff sharing their expertise beyond our organization and into the community. Weโ€™re grateful to have a team that is passionate about sharing vital information and helping others understand why this work is so important.

Scammers are always finding new ways to target our communities, which makes knowing the warning signs more important than ever. ๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ

At the 2026 Scam Jam at the Bazemore Active Adult Center, community members learned practical ways to recognize and avoid scams, identity theft and financial fraud while connecting with local agencies and resources.

Centralina Area Agency on Aging was proud to join the event and share information and resources to help older adults stay informed and protected.

Stay alert, ask questions and help spread the word. Sharing what you learn could help protect someone you love! ๐Ÿ’™

Last month, we bid farewell to Geraldine Gardner, who served as the Executive Director for Centralina Regional Council.

We want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Geraldine for her leadership, support, and dedication to the people and communities we serve.

From the moment Geraldine joined Centralina, she made it a priority to learn about the work of the Area Agency on Aging and the services that support older adults throughout our region. Her genuine interest quickly grew into passionate advocacy. She became a strong champion for aging services, helping elevate the importance of our work and advocating for the resources needed to support older adults at the local, state, and federal levels.

Just as importantly, Geraldine worked to make Centralina a place where people feel valued, supported, and empowered. By encouraging staff to help shape our core values and fostering a culture that celebrates and uplifts one another, she left a lasting impact on our organization and on each of us who had the privilege of working alongside her.

Geraldine, thank you for believing in our mission, supporting our team, and leading with heart. We are grateful for your partnership and wish you all the best in your next chapter. ๐Ÿ’™
