🎙️ Hear directly from Youth Committee (Bonita Voices) member, Giah Pimentel, as we launch our Summer Youth Committee cycle!

This summer, we’re creating a space where young people can lead, grow, and be heard, and you can be part of making that possible.

Our goal is to raise $1,000 to support 10 youth participants ($100 per student) in this summer’s Youth Committee. Each contribution helps cover programming, leadership development activities, wellness support, and the safe space our youth need to thrive.

At Despierta, youth like Giah gain confidence, community, and real opportunities to grow as leaders, and it’s all made possible through support from people like you.

Advocating for Our Communities in Washington, D.C. 🇺🇸✨

This week, our Founder & Executive Director, Juliana Lozano, joined more than 150 Latino leaders from across the country at Hispanic Federation’s Encuentro Nacional in Washington, D.C.

Over two days, Latino-led and Latino-serving organizations met with members of Congress and conducted more than 100 advocacy visits on Capitol Hill, calling for policies that protect and strengthen our communities.

Juliana had the opportunity to share the experiences and needs of the communities we serve, proudly representing North Carolina and ensuring that the voices of Latino youth and families are part of the national conversation.

We are grateful to Hispanic Federation for creating spaces where community leaders can come together, advocate for meaningful change, and uplift the voices of those often left out of policy discussions.

💜 Together, we continue to build a future where our communities are seen, heard, and empowered.

From hosting our fundraiser, traveling to Texas, and celebrating the end of another incredible Bonita Rising program season, to receiving awards and recognition for our impact—May was filled with growth, connection, and meaningful moments.

Every milestone reflects the strength of our youth, the dedication of our team, and the support of our community. Thank you for being part of this journey and helping us create spaces where youth & women can rise, lead, and thrive. 🌻

We were honored to attend the Partner Impact Awards and are incredibly proud to share that Despierta received the Community Catalyst Award 🏆✨

Out of more than 100 submissions, only 38 organizations were selected as nominees, and we are deeply grateful to have been recognized among so many impactful community partners.

This award reflects the collective work of our youth, families, school partners, supporters, and team who continue to believe in the power of community, empowerment, and mental wellness. 🤍

Thank you to CMS for this recognition and to everyone who continues to support Despierta’s mission. The impact is only growing. 🌱
