Refugee resettlement agencies scramble after Trump orders them to halt their federally funded work:

Church World Service helps to resettle about 12% of refugees nationwide — some 12,000 in the last fiscal year, said its senior vice president, Erol Kekic.

“It really is a bridge to self-sufficiency,” Kekic said of the services for which federal funding is now apparently paused. He estimates about 4,000 refugees served by his organization would be affected.

Since taking office on January 20th, President Trump has signed a sweeping series of executive actions that have undermined decades of precedent for welcome, including a total ban on access to asylum, an expansion of detention and deportation throughout the United States, and an indefinite ban on refugee resettlement.

To learn more about these actions, including ways you can support refugees, immigrants, and all those who find themselves in need of food, voice, and a safe place to call home, join our webinar - jointly hosted with Refugee Council USA and We Are All America - this Friday at 1:00.

Last week, CWS was informed by the U.S. Department of State to halt federally funded activities supporting in Egypt, Indonesia, and 4,200 refugees in the U.S., effective immediately.

This puts our program participants—families escaping , trafficking , , and vulnerable communities—at risk of hunger and homelessness.

We urgently need your help. A generous donation today can make a difference. Let’s stand together to ensure our neighbors, both here and abroad, know they are not alone.

A bill that would place undocumented North Carolinians at greater risk of surveillance, detention, and deportation will come to a vote before the North Carolina General Assembly TOMORROW (11/19). The legislature’s effort to enact the bill comes as President-elect Donald Trump is preparing his administration to “carry out the largest deportation operation in history.”

Join us in taking action to urge members of the North Carolina General Assembly to side with immigrant communities and vote “No” on the veto override of HB 10 – Require ICE Cooperation & Budget Adjustments.

🚨We stand with our refugee and immigrant neighbors. Nearly eight years ago we witnessed the heartbreaking consequences of sweeping executive actions and policy changes that separated immigrant families, detained children, turned people fleeing violence and persecution back to danger, cut funding to life-saving global aid programs, and abandoned refugees who were desperately in need of protection.

📢 Join us in calling for the new administration to maintain the programs and policies that support newcomers and to reject misinformation and fear-mongering about immigrant and refugee communities. Together we will work to safeguard protection for our immigrant and refugee neighbors, and defend pathways to safety and life-saving aid for families who remain in danger. 💛
