Sunday Sermon Recap: “Oppression Is Not the Conclusion”
Rev. Dr. Kevin Griffin | Exodus 1:8-22

In Exodus 1, the Israelites were thriving, growing, and walking in God’s promise. Yet their success sparked fear in Pharaoh, leading him to create policies designed to oppress and limit them. Rev. Dr. Griffin reminded us that this pattern is not unique to biblical history. Often, when people begin to flourish, opposition arises. However, the central message of the text is clear: fear and oppression may create obstacles, but they can never cancel God’s purpose. What God has ordained for your life is not determined by circumstances, politics, systems, or the opinions of others, but by His promises.

For everyone navigating uncertainty, setbacks, economic pressures, career challenges, and social division, this message offers hope. The Israelites faced increasing hardship, yet “the more they were oppressed, the more they multiplied.” Sometimes the very struggles meant to break us become the soil where God grows resilience, strength, and purpose. Difficult seasons are not always signs that God has abandoned us. Often, He is working beneath the surface in ways we cannot yet see.

Rev. Dr. Griffin challenged us to remember that oppression is never the end of the story. Throughout Scripture, whenever evil seemed to have the upper hand, God raised up courageous people and prepared deliverance. Just as God was working behind the scenes for Israel, He is still working today. The chapter may be difficult, but it is not the conclusion. God’s purpose cannot be canceled, His promises cannot be stopped, and His faithfulness will always have the final word.
