Friends, we are so excited for the return of the Mere Anglicanism Conference in less than THREE months––January 22–24, 2026, in beautiful Charleston, SC! Our lineup of world class-scholars and theologians will address this year's conference theme, "You Are Not Your Own: Gospel Identity in an Age of Expressive Individualism," helping us not only to develop understanding and compassion for a culture that has come to embrace the lies of expressive individualism, but also to construct a positive vision for how we can practically and joyfully devote ourselves—our bodies and souls—to the service of God and neighbor.
Our first speaker spotlight is on the Rev. Dr. Carl Trueman, who will open the conference with his talk, "Where Does It End? Expressive Individualism’s 'Brave New World.'"
Born and raised in England, Carl Trueman is a graduate of the Universities of Cambridge (M.A., Classics) and Aberdeen (Ph.D, Church History), and he has taught on the faculties of the Universities of Nottingham and Aberdeen. In 2017–18 he was the William E. Simon Visiting Fellow in Religion and Public Life in the James Madison Program at Princeton University. Since 2018, he has served as a professor at Grove City College in the Calderwood School of Arts and Humanities.
While he was originally a specialist in Reformation and Post-Reformation Protestant thought, Dr. Trueman has focused his work more recently on identity, critical theory, and the impact of the sexual revolution. He is a contributing editor at First Things and a Fellow at the Ethics and Public Policy Center in Washington DC.
His most recent books are "The Rise and Triumph of the Modern Self: Expressive Individualism, Cultural Amnesia, and the Road to Sexual Revolution" (named 2021 Top Book in Public Theology by the Gospel Coalition), "The Oxford Handbook of Calvin and Calvinism" (with Bruce Gordon), and "To Change All Worlds: Critical Theory from Marx to Marcuse." His writing has appeared in Deseret Journal, The Wall Street Journal, National Review Online, American Mind, Claremont Review of Books, and Public Discourse.
