A FULL HOUSE!

Our social event hosted by was a hit! What an incredible opportunity to come together and be graciously hosted by this Charleston staple.

Hyman’s Seafood was originally established in 1890 (that’s 136 years ago) and is now being run by the family’s fifth generation! It is also currently the second most review restaurant in the United States.

The Charleston Tour Association is so grateful to have such a wealth of friends in our community. Please join us in the future and support tourism in our lovely city.

Earlier in the month, on one of the first cold days of the season, we had our November meeting. Despite the frigid air we had a wonderful turnout! There’s no doubt that people will brave any weather to hear Dr. Nic Butler speak. This month we were hosted by and dove into an incredible topic: The Royal Navy’s Defense of Charleston Harbor, Autumn 1775.
Dr. Butler goes in depth on many Charleston topics on his podcast, Charleston Time Machine, which can be found through the Charleston County Public Library’s website.

Earlier this month we had the opportunity to come together at for our monthly meeting. As always, we are so grateful for those that host us!

October’s speaker, retired homicide investigator, Bruce Orr, enlightened us with his topic: A Bag of Leaves- Charleston’s Native American History, Hauntings and Legends. If you missed this lecture, you missed a good one! If you’d like to hear the lecture, just log into your CTA account via the website to access all previous meetings.

If you did hear the lecture and still can’t get enough of Bruce’s expertise, he has several books available covering some ghostly topics to get you through this Halloween season 👻

Thank you to Dayton Hall for hosting our social gathering at the Andrew Moffett house!

If you’ve braved the traffic on I-26 to get into Charleston, you’ve probably passed this house and not realized it!

A little background on the house ⬇️
“Andrew Moffett, a dry goods merchant with a shop at 188 King Street apparently built this two-and-a-half-story brick single house on the site of an earlier, similar dwelling that had been constructed in the 1790s by Philip Gadsden. The house has notable brickwork with quoining, belt coursing, dogtooth cornice, and pedimented gable, and the finish gives indication of the application of a late-nineteenth-century red paint to the surface. After her husband’s death in 1853, Anna Moffett lived here until after the Civil War when she sold it to the Seignious family for rental property. Rehabilitated in 1962 and 1986.” -Roots and Recall

In the mid-20th century the Historic Charleston Foundation developed the Revolving Fund as a strategy to preserve homes in Ansonborough that had fallen into disrepair. More than 60 structures were repaired and rehabilitated over a 12-year period. This project is widely considered to be the country’s first successful attempts to preserve a neighborhood.

Did you know? There’s way more to explore than just downtown Charleston! The surrounding areas off the peninsula provide just as much rich history as the historic district. Take a leisurely drive to Charles Towne Landing and see where it all began; Charleston before it was Charleston!

I have some heartbreaking news to announce. The Historic Table is no longer hosting any historic dinners at the Fireproof Building. All future reservations have been informed by email of this situation. This was my third location in 5 years, so I’m not looking for another location. From now on, the Historic Table is coming to you. I will be doing vintage catering and be a personal chef. Now you can have a historic dinner at your house, hotel, office, Air BNB, Clubhouse, or any event space. Availability is wide open right now, and there are 14 different themes for you to choose from. Check out the updated website and book your historic party soon! thehistorictable.com
