Today is National Fentanyl Prevention & Awareness Day—a time to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and share resources that can save lives.

Illicitly manufactured fentanyl can be present in counterfeit pills and other substances without a person’s knowledge. Knowing the signs of an opioid overdose and keeping naloxone nearby can make a critical difference.

West Virginia pharmacists are accessible healthcare partners who can help individuals and families learn about naloxone, how to use it, and where to obtain it. Start the conversation with your local pharmacist today—awareness and preparedness save lives.

Your Monthly Med Safety Tip from APMS:

Safety Tip: Compounding Master Formula Records (MFRs)

Necessary for compliance with USP and local regulations
Standardizes procedures/assures consistency when preparing extemporaneous products
Includes documentation of quality control checks at critical steps
Essential in addition to the separate Compounding Record (CR)

Does your pharmacy have and follow a written procedure to assure that the accuracy of MFRs and CRs are independently verified and documented before they are used in production and before any formulation changes or procedural changes are made?

For more information, or to get your Medication Safety and Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) program started, visit the APMS site at www.medicationsafety.org or give APMS a call at (866)365-7472.
