Before it was rows of Foursquares and bungalows, this was Luna Park - a real amusement park, roller coaster and all, that drew up to 15,000 people a day by streetcar and steamboat. A 1923 fire ended it after just 11 years, and the land became the historic neighborhood we know today. Did you ever hear stories about Luna Park? Tell us about it! 🎢

Did you know that Charleston's West Side was once home to the world’s largest axe factory? 🪓✨

In 1904, the construction of the Kelly Axe & Tool Company ignited a massive boom for the area. Sprawling over 52 acres along the Kanawha River near Patrick Street, this industrial powerhouse employed over 1,000 workers at its peak, churning out an incredible 40,000 finished tools every single day!

Later operated by the True Temper Corporation until 1982, this historic site played a major role in shaping our local community and its economy. The factory's long gone (it's Patrick Street Plaza now), but the story isn't.
