WE SAID WE WEREN’T PULLING. AND WE MEANT IT. 🐾
Adoptions are slow. We have so many incredible dogs sitting and waiting. Transports are in two weeks given the holiday. And we had a WEEK in rescue.

But then the emails come.
The deadlines come.
The pleas from shelters come.
The pleas for teamwork comes from our fellow rescues who are in the trenches too.
The tags then come from our rescue partners.

And when you know a shelter is euthanizing dogs every single day… how do you say no?
Especially when a foster steps up and says, “I’ll take one.”

So today, three more dogs arrived at Journey Home Rescue Alliance:

🐾 LEXI (formerly Aubrey) | 4 years | 54 lbs | German Shepherd mix
🐾 DOVIE | 1 year | Hound mix
🐾 REY (formerly kito) | 5 months

And tomorrow, GIGI | 2 years will join them.

Four dogs we weren’t planning to pull. Four dogs we really didn’t have room to pull.

But fosters stepped up. And because they did, four lives have a way out.

That is what fostering does. When we say fostering saves lives, we aren’t using a catchy rescue phrase. We mean it literally. A foster saying yes creates a space where there wasn’t one before—and sometimes that is the only reason we’re able to say yes when another deadline lands in our inbox. We are so incredibly grateful.

Rescue can be defeating. It is hard to receive these pleas day after day knowing we cannot possibly say yes to every dog. It’s hard when the dogs already in our care aren’t moving. And it’s hard knowing there will always be another email, another deadline and another dog who needs somewhere to go.

But today isn’t about what we can’t do.

Today Lexi, Dovie and Rey are safe.

Tomorrow, Gigi will be too.

Four dogs got their chance because people stepped up and opened their homes. And THAT is something worth celebrating. 🤍

Every adoption opens a door.
Every foster creates a pathway.
Every yes makes room for another life.

Here’s hoping September brings movement. Open doors. New pathways. Open wings. And lots and lots of homecomings.

We can’t save them all. But when there’s a path home, it’s really damn hard not to try. 🤍

LET’S HEAR IT FOR THE BOYS! 🐾
The girls had their moment. Now allow us to introduce the distinguished gentlemen of Journey Home, six handsome, eligible bachelors who are officially on the market. And frankly, the dating pool has never looked better.

🤠 COWBOY | 1 year | 64 lbs
The sweetest, most handsome man around. Good looks, good heart, total package. Truly, it just doesn’t get much better than Cowboy.

🍷 GRAND PAPPY | 8 years | 30 lbs
Aging like fine wine and somehow getting better with time. Sweet, affectionate, easygoing and basically perfection. No complaints over here. Not one.

🐻 BEAR | 3 years | 78 lbs
A big, handsome Pyrenees mix with brains AND beauty. Bear may be a picky eater, but apparently those standards do not apply when inspecting the trash. Smart, fluffy and just the right amount of mischievous.

🤍 MEEK | 3 years | BIG OLE BOY
Our resident gentle giant. Meek is sweet, affectionate and good with kids, cats AND dogs. He’s basically a giant fluffy teddy bear who would very much like to move into your house.

🕺 JACK | 3 years | 53 lbs
Jack is our lovable work in progress — and he keeps life interesting! He originally came from a hoarding case, was adopted and later returned when it became clear he needed a little more guidance. He’s working with training now and learning how to be the very best version of Jack. He may not arrive wearing a halo, but this handsome guy is absolutely worth rooting for.

🐒 MONKEY | 2 years | 50 lbs
Monkey is READY TO PARTY. Full of life, energy and enthusiasm — and after spending 200+ days in a shelter, can you blame him?! This boy has some serious catching up to do. Adventures? Yes. Fun? Absolutely. Sitting around wasting another day? Monkey respectfully declines.

Six boys. Six very different personalities. Six incredibly deserving dogs waiting for someone to finally choose them.

THE GENTLEMEN ARE READY. WHO’S TAKING ONE HOME? 🎩

LET’S GO GIRLS. 💅
We’ve got NINE incredible girls looking for homes and if there was ever a time for a little girl power, this is it.
Meet the leading ladies of Journey Home:

💗 BB | 1 year | 50 lbs
A foster saw BB sitting in the shelter and begged us to save her. She’s shy at first, incredibly affectionate once she feels safe, and quite possibly the prettiest girl in the room.

💗 LONDYN | 6 years | 60 lbs
A foster in the Upstate simply could not let Londyn be euthanized and pulled her under our name. Now she’s made her way to the Lowcountry and is proving exactly what that foster already knew: this girl deserved to live.

💗 MACY | 5 years | 60 lbs
Macy gave birth to her puppies in the shelter, watched her babies get adopted, and then landed on the euthanasia list herself. Thankfully, she made it out and her foster describes her as the easiest foster dog ever.

💗 EDITH | 4 years | 38 lbs
Shut down in the shelter. Saved from euthanasia. And apparently Edith decided she was never being quiet again. 😂 This former wallflower is now a certified wild child packed with personality and s***k.

💗 SWEETIE | 5 years | 70 lbs
Sweetie arrived covered in hundreds of fleas with some of the worst matting we’ve ever seen. Today? This gorgeous Pyrenees mix is the definition of resilience. Loving and absolute perfection.

💗 PENNY | 2 years | 54 lbs
Penny and her sister came from terrible living conditions and entered rescue undersocialized and unsure of the world. But Penny has discovered something she REALLY likes: attention and affection.

💗 BINDI | 3 years | 70 lbs
She’s beauty, she’s grace, she is approximately 87% LEGS. 😂 Bindi is super chill, sweet and just an all-around lovely girl.

💗 DOLLIE | 4 years | 44 lbs
Of course our girl named Dollie had to make the girl-power lineup. Saved from euthanasia and fresh out of the shelter, she’s still a little anxious while she figures out this whole new-life thing. But underneath those nerves is one beautiful girl who deserves every bit of it.

💗 PRETTY GIRL | 4 years | 67 lbs
And last—but absolutely not least—our mama of TEN. Pretty Girl has been busy being the very best mom while her babies get ready for adoption. Now we need someone to take care of HER. She is currently looking for a foster.

Nine girls. Nine completely different stories. Nine lives that matter.

THIS ONE’S FOR THE GIRLS. 💕

PUPPY SHORTAGE? NOT OVER HERE. 🐾
Seriously… HOW do we have 13 ridiculously cute puppies looking for homes and ZERO applications?!

And this week, ALL PUPPIES HAVE A $250 ADOPTION FEE! 🎉

So without further ado, meet the current cast of Please Take Me Home Immediately Because Look At My Face:

🐾 Sam & Dean — 3-month-old brothers. Affectionate, happy little dudes who are ready to find families of their own.

🐾 Jason, James & Jesse — 3-month-old brothers, about 10–15 lbs each. Three handsome boys in matching white suits, each with his own original markings and personality.

🐾 Amelia & Ansley — 8-week-old sisters who were found as strays. These beautiful little girls are happy, smart, affectionate and getting their fresh start.

🐾 Carrot & Pie — 4-month-old sisters who look SO much alike that Carrot being the bigger one is basically our current identification system. 😂

🐾 Mojave — 3 months old, beautiful, smart and ready to show off just how wonderful she is.

🐾 Bo & Alex — 5-month-old brothers, around 24 lbs, who were saved from euthanasia and are now waiting for the homes they almost never got the chance to find. ❤️

🐾 Wells — 4 months old, 20 lbs and already fully employed as a professional lap dog. Personal space is not included with his adoption.

THIRTEEN PUPPIES. THIRTEEN DIFFERENT PERSONALITIES. AND SOMEHOW, ZERO APPLICATIONS.

Y’all… we can fix this.

And that $250 adoption fee comes with a LOT. Our puppies receive age-appropriate veterinary care including their spay/neuter, microchip, vaccines, deworming, monthly preventatives, veterinary exam and more. If something in their vaccine or medical schedule can’t be completed before adoption simply because of their age or timing, the rescue covers the necessary care afterward as part of the adoption process.

Basically, you bring the puppy home.
We’ve already put a whole lot of love, care and vetting behind them. ❤️

Now the only question is…

WHATCHA WANT? WHATCHA NEED? WE GOT YOUR PUPPY. 🐶

And PLEASE SHARE — because 13 puppies with zero applications is just plain ridiculous.

WHERE ARE OUR BLACK LAB LOVERS AT?! 🖤
This Pretty Girl needs a foster starting MONDAY in the Charleston area!

She’s 4 years old, 67 pounds, and has spent the last chapter of her life being the very best mom. She gave birth to her puppies in the shelter and went straight into foster, where she has been busy raising her babies and making sure they had everything they needed.

Now her puppies are ready to spread their wings. They have fosters lined up and will be splitting up… but somehow Mama is the one without somewhere to go. 🥺

It’s her turn.

Her turn to stop worrying about puppies.
Her turn to get spoiled.
Her turn to be someone’s pretty black Lab girl instead of just “Mom.”
And most importantly, her turn to get closer to Charleston so we can help find her the home she deserves.

We need a Charleston-area foster willing to welcome this 67-pound beauty starting Monday.

She took care of her babies. Who can take care of Mama now? 🖤

Please share — and message us if approved already or apply to foster if you can give this girl her next soft place to land.

TALL GIRLS NEED LOVE TOO. 💗
Meet Bindi — 3 years old, 70 pounds, and approximately 87% legs.

Seriously. She’s tall. She’s goofy. She’s affectionate. And she has absolutely no idea that she takes up significantly more vertical space than the average dog.

Bindi is a Great Pyrenees mix with a big personality to match those long legs. She’s fun, friendly, loves her people, and is always happy to be included in whatever is going on. She does well with other dogs and has settled beautifully into home life. 🐾

And this very large lady actually has some pretty impressive manners.

She’s potty trained, good on a leash, and trustworthy free roaming in the house. No need to supervise her every move — Bindi is perfectly content just being part of the family.

She’s equal parts goofy and sweet, with that lovable big-dog energy that makes you laugh one minute and has her leaning all 70 pounds into you for affection the next.

Bindi originally came into the shelter as a stray, so we don’t know what her life looked like before. But we know what she’s ready for now: a home of her own and people who appreciate a tall drink of water with a very big heart.

If your life has room for 70 pounds of sweetness and an unreasonable amount of legs, Bindi would love to meet you. 🤍

WELL, HELLO DOLLY… AND DOLLIE. 🤍
Two new girls entered our rescue. Two completely different foster homes. And somehow, both fosters looked at their new girl and decided on the same name.

So, in honor of the one and only Dolly Parton, meet Dolly & Dollie.

And really, we can’t think of a better namesake.

Dolly Parton is known for a lot of things—big hair, rhinestones, country music and an unmistakable voice—but maybe what we love most is that behind all that sparkle is an incredibly big heart. She’s spent decades giving back, helping others and making the world a little kinder.

That feels pretty fitting for rescue. ❤️

Dolly is a 4-year-old Great Pyrenees mix, bringing the big, beautiful, fluffy side of the Dolly name.

Dollie is a 4-year-old black Lab mix, proving you don’t need rhinestones to shine.

Both girls are beginning brand-new chapters in foster homes, where we’ll get to know who they really are outside of the shelter environment. And while neither of them came into rescue expecting to share a name, we’ve decided there are far worse things than having a little extra Dolly in the world.

So here’s to second chances, big hearts, new beginnings…

…and finding someone who can say, “I will always love you.” 🤍

Welcome to Journey Home, Dolly & Dollie.

Two Dollies. Two second chances. A whole lotta love.

THIS. 💔
And candidly the 2nd reason why Journey Home Rescue Alliance is closed to saving any more lives.

We network and fight for all breeds, sizes and ages. When we hear of mom’s left behind because rescues can only take the puppies or because mom is HW+ and the northern states don’t allow it - it’s absolutely gut wrenching.

On the daily, HW+ moms ARE LEFT BEHIND in our shelters, in animal control and by our community. FACT.

Well we don’t AND it pi**es us off. We pull mom, we pay to HW treat her, to spay her and to give her all the medical attention she needs.

Yet…

Rescues don’t come forth. Applications stay at 0.

Macy fought to raise her babies Florence County Animal Services. Her babies went to rescue. She was up for euthanasia. She arrived skin and bones, malnourished and sad.

We re-wrote her story.

BUT SHE SITS.

She sits because she looks like the rest out there. She sits because she prefers male dogs and puppies over female companions. She sits because 1/2 of housing in this area won’t allow her breed. She sits.

We are NOT supposed to have dog sitting. Our mission is to save and send, and while we can, we adopt.

We can NOT continue to save more and allow her to sit. We need this foster home spot badly, we need to more her on.

100% LOVE
Adopt Penny 💕
Penny is the kind of girl who believes that wherever you are, that’s exactly where she should be, too! Whether you’re curled up on the couch, painting on the floor, or settling in for a nap, Penny is happiest simply being by your side.

She’s an affectionate little lovebug who takes her cuddles very seriously—when Penny decides it’s time for snuggles, she won’t take no for an answer! 🥰 But she’s more than just a professional cuddler. Penny is energetic, curious, and loves exploring the world around her.

She’s already potty trained and is learning to walk nicely on a leash. She’s been wonderfully adaptable to training and is eager to keep learning. Penny would love a home where she can be part of the family, stay close to her people, and get plenty of affection, playtime, and opportunities to explore. If you’re looking for a loyal little shadow with a big heart and an even bigger love for cuddles, Penny might just be your girl! 💗

THREE BROTHERS. THREE VERY DIFFERENT PERSONALITIES. 🩵
Meet James, Jesse & Jason — three 3-month-old brothers, each weighing just 10–15 lbs, and each bringing something completely different to the table.

JAMES is the cuddle bug. This sweet boy LOVES being held, and cuddle time ends when James says it ends. Put him down too soon and he’ll holler to let you know there has clearly been a misunderstanding. He’s affectionate, snuggly and has plenty of personality packed into that little body.

JESSE is the shy guy of the group. He likes to take a minute to watch you and figure things out, but every day he gets a little braver. Once he feels comfortable, his playful side starts to shine. And when mealtime rolls around? Suddenly, shy Jesse is nowhere to be found. He plans to be first to the bowl and would kindly like his brothers to get their own. 😂

JASON is the welcoming committee. He’s usually the first brother there to greet you and is always happy to see his person. He may be little, but he has absolutely no problem holding his own with his brothers—especially when food is involved. More than anything, Jason seems ready to have a person of his very own to love.

Three brothers. One cuddle bug, one cautious little foodie, and one tiny social butterfly. 🐾

Which brother sounds like yours? 🩵
