The World Affairs Council of Charleston (WACC, formerly the Charleston Foreign Affairs Forum) was founded in the early 1980's as a non-profit, nonpartisan organization. The WACC mission is to educate and engage the wider Charleston community through timely non-partisan activities on world affairs and international relations. ANNOUNCEMENT -- INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS LUNCHEON: JAPANESE BUSINESS VENTURES IN SOUTH CAROLINA

During the past year, Japan has launched several South Carolina businesses in the aircraft, automotive, and other industries. Two companies will brief us on their operations in the state. AHT Cooling Systems USA, a member of the Daikin group, specializes in commercial refrigeration technology for the retail food market. NICCA Chemical, with a facility outside of Greenville, SC, is a global chemical company creating sustainable solutions for textiles and other industries.

Aiyana Victoria Mathews, guest consultant with expertise in international business, will update us on Japan and its business expansion efforts in South Carolina.

Ms. Mathews founded Gardner-Mathews Global Management in 2014, which provides market research, global expansion and strategic sales support, and customized travel itineraries. She sits on the marketing advisory council for the Trident United Way in Charleston and served on the planning committee for the 30th anniversary of JapanFest, the largest Japanese cultural event in the southeastern United States. Ms. Mathews holds a B.S. from the Rochester Institute of Technology.
