Join us for a Woodland Tour hosted by Jim and Jeff Kochenderfer, respected leaders in West Virginia’s forestry community.
Jim Kochenderfer, retired from the USDA Forest Service’s Timber and Watershed Laboratory in Parsons, played a key role in developing the state’s logging Best Management Practices (BMPs). His property features numerous water diversion structures and examples of thoughtful, science-based woodland management.
Jeff Kochenderfer, Silviculturist for the Monongahela National Forest, will share his extensive knowledge of silviculture and ecosystem management, highlighting how diverse woodland objectives can be achieved through sound forest practices.
Topics and Demonstrations will include:
Healthy forest ecosystems and habitat management
Deer herbivory and a visit to a nine-year-old native plant refugium
Timber management strategies and woodland stewardship
Road system planting and maintenance for long-term sustainability
Water and snacks will be provided, please confirm your planned attendance by June 15.

Directions: A map is attached to the property. Traveling from the West or South the property is 11.5 miles north of Route 33/Corridor H Elkins exit.
An alternative Route is to take the Corridor H highway east from Elkins all the way to where it ends at Kerens, WV. From there, the Kochenderfer property is 6.6 miles north on US Route 219 toward Parsons.
The parking areas are adjacent to Route 219 and on the Randolph-Tucker County line.
