EveryChild NOW

EveryChild NOW A West Virginia-based nonprofit on a mission to transform the way West Virginia values, empowers, and invests in every child.

Together, we will create a better West Virginia where every child is safe, healthy, educated and loved.💚 The KIDS COUNT Data Book is our signature program and an objective, reliable and valued source of data for educating policymakers and the public about children's needs. Currently, we are fighting to improve the quality of childcare by advocating for the funding necessary to implement a quality

rating and improvement system for childcare programs. And, we are working to improve children's oral health by advocating for policies that promote good dental care for our youngest children.

🏆 2026 Connection Champion of Children: Jim Matuga 🏆

EveryChild NOW is proud to recognize Jim Matuga, Founder and President of Inner Action Media, as our 2026 Connection Champion of Children!

For Jim, connection is more than something he helps organizations create through storytelling... it has been a defining part of how he serves his community.

For more than two decades, Jim has served as a founding board member and head coach with the West Virginia Miracle Baseball League, helping create opportunities for children and adults with disabilities to experience the joy, teamwork, confidence, and sense of belonging that come through baseball.

He has also spent his professional career helping businesses and nonprofit organizations tell stories that bring people together. Through InnerAction Media and as founder and host of Positively West Virginia, Jim has created platforms that spotlight businesses, nonprofits, and community leaders who are working to make West Virginia stronger.

Jim’s long history of service also includes leadership and volunteer roles with organizations such as PACE Enterprises, Rotary, Refuge Mountain Ranch, the United Way, and other community initiatives. At the center of that work is a commitment to helping people feel seen, included, supported, and connected to something bigger than themselves.

💚 That dedication to building relationships, creating a sense of belonging, and strengthening the connections that help children and communities thrive makes Jim Matuga an outstanding Connection Champion of Children.

Please join us in congratulating Jim Matuga and celebrating him at the 2026 EveryChild NOW Champion Awards Luncheon on October 7 at Edgewood Country Club.

✨ Congratulations, Jim, and thank you for helping build a more connected West Virginia for our children and families!

🏆 2026 Economy Champion of Children: Terrell Ellis 🏆

EveryChild NOW is proud to recognize Terrell Ellis, President & CEO of Advantage Valley, Inc., as our 2026 Economy Champion of Children!

Throughout her career, Terrell has worked to strengthen West Virginia communities by expanding economic opportunity, supporting entrepreneurship, growing the workforce, and helping create the conditions businesses and families need to thrive.

As President & CEO of Advantage Valley, she leads regional economic development efforts across the Charleston-Huntington area, bringing together businesses, communities, educational institutions, local governments, and other partners to attract investment and create new opportunities throughout the region.

But her work also demonstrates something central to EveryChild NOW’s mission: a strong economy for families requires more than jobs alone.

Under Terrell’s leadership, Advantage Valley has worked to address one of the biggest challenges facing working parents and employers alike — access to quality child care. The organization has supported prospective and existing child care providers through business workshops, individualized coaching, technical assistance, and access to microgrant opportunities designed to help increase child care availability.

By strengthening businesses, supporting entrepreneurs, addressing workforce barriers, and helping communities become places where families can build their futures, Terrell’s work creates an impact that reaches far beyond economic development.

💚 That commitment to building a stronger economy, one that creates opportunity for children and families today and for generations to come.... makes Terrell Ellis an outstanding Economy Champion of Children.

Please join us in congratulating Terrell Ellis and celebrating her at the 2026 EveryChild NOW Champion Awards Luncheon on October 7 at Edgewood Country Club.

✨ Congratulations, Terrell, and thank you for your continued work to build stronger communities and greater opportunity for West Virginia’s children and families!

🏆 2026 Health Champion of Children: Dr. Matthew Christiansen 🏆

EveryChild NOW is proud to recognize Dr. Matthew Christiansen, Vice President of Health Affairs and Chief Medical Officer at Valley Health Systems, Inc., as our 2026 Health Champion of Children!

Dr. Christiansen has dedicated his career to improving the health of West Virginians, combining the perspectives of a physician, public health leader, policymaker, and advocate to tackle some of the most complex health challenges facing our state.

A dual-board-certified physician in Family Medicine and Addiction Medicine, Dr. Christiansen has worked to improve access to healthcare, strengthen public health systems, and address substance use and the opioid epidemic. Before joining Valley Health Systems, he served as West Virginia's State Health Officer and Commissioner of the Bureau for Public Health and previously led the West Virginia Office of Drug Control Policy.

His work has also included efforts especially important to the health of young West Virginians, including leading statewide public health initiatives and helping launch a statewide anti-vaping campaign designed to address a growing threat to youth health. Today, he continues that commitment through his leadership at Valley Health Systems and his work to improve health outcomes for underserved and rural communities.

What makes Dr. Christiansen's leadership especially meaningful is his recognition that a child's health is shaped by far more than what happens inside a doctor's office. Strong families, safe communities, prevention, access to care, education, and opportunity all play a role in giving children the chance to grow and thrive.

That commitment to healthier children, stronger families, and healthier West Virginia communities makes Dr. Matthew Christiansen an outstanding Health Champion of Children. 💚

Please join us in congratulating Dr. Matthew Christiansen and celebrating him at the 2026 EveryChild NOW Champion Awards Luncheon on October 7 at Edgewood Country Club.

✨ Congratulations, Dr. Christiansen, and thank you for your leadership in building a healthier future for West Virginia's children!
