โœจ Meet Shayna Howell โœจ

Shayna Howell grew up in Hampton, SC and moved to Charleston in 1998. She has a B.S. in Anthropology (College of Charleston) and a joint Masters in Public Administration (College of Charleston, University of South Carolina). Following the birth of her children, she committed to volunteerism as a way to connect with and serve her community, and especially appreciates opportunities to combine her love of SCโ€™s environment with civic engagement and policy education. She currently serves as the VP of Issues and Action for the League of Women Voters of the Charleston Area, Board Chair for the Coastal Conservation League, a volunteer Natural History Interpreter for the Charleston County Parks, and an election clerk for Charleston County. She is a 2019 Riley Fellow (Diversity Leaders Initiative.) Shayna lives on Folly Beach with her husband Travis, two very busy high-schoolers, and a mischievous hound rescue.

โœจ Meet Jennet Robinson Alterman โœจ

Jennet Robinson Alterman is a native of Charleston, S.C. and is currently involved in womenโ€™s rights advocacy across the state. She has worked in federal and state government as well as the private and nonprofit sectors. She had a long career in international development serving as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Afghanistan, Peace Corps Country Director in Swaziland and the Interagency Coordinator for Peace Corps worldwide where she worked on projects in over 40 countries. Upon her return to Charleston she led the Center for Women from 2001 until 2013. During her time there the Center was recognized by Oprah Winfrey for programming excellence and received many other awards for nonprofit management and PR/Marketing.

Jennet has served on numerous boards and commissions including the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce, Charleston County Housing Authority, Footlight Players, and the Spaulding Paolozzi Foundation. She is the former Chair of both the City of Charleston Commission on Women and the Board of the S.C. Womenโ€™s Rights and Empowerment Network, a statewide organization building a movement to protect and support the health, economic well-being and rights of S.C. women, girls and their families.

She was awarded a PhD in Humane Letters from the College of Charleston.

Jennet is married to noted photographer Jack Alterman.
