If you are an African American woman between the ages of 18 – 75, you can play an important role in Changing What’s Possible at MUSC and beyond. The “Social Factors, Epigenomics, and Lupus in African American Women” (SELA) Study involves a one-time visit to answer a few questionnaires and donate a blood sample. The SELA Study aims to understand how social factors of discrimination/bias and social support can affect gene activity and influence lupus outcomes. They are looking for volunteers with and without lupus to participate, and compensation is available. Please contact the SELA Study coordinator Quinnette King to find out more! Her phone # is: 843-792-7645 Her email is: [email protected]

Black History Month is a time to honor the contributions of Black Americans. Black nurses have played a foundational role in shaping U.S. healthcare. The history of Black nurses in America has been marked by a fight for access, advancing patient care, and advocating for equity. This month and every day we celebrate the ongoing efforts of Black nurses in addressing systemic challenges, promoting diversity and strengthening culturally competent care.

We honor the life and legacy of Dr. Janell Green Smith. 🕊️

As an organization whose primary goal is to help address health disparities in our community, we are committed to bringing awareness and advocating on maternal mortality and morbidity among minority and underserved pregnant and postpartum women.

We will help to stand in the gap to achieve Dr. Smith’s mission to make every mother feel safe and heard during child birth.
