SAVE THE DATES: As part of the Justice and the Next 250 campaign, we’ll be holding a free public pre-screening of the upcoming Lynn Novick and Ken Burns PBS documentary series “Crime and Punishment in America” July 1 at the Apollo Theater in Martinsburg. A second screening will be held July 8 at the Labelle Theater in South Charleston. More info to come soon!
The series, which will premiere on PBS in November, is the first to tell the story of America’s criminal legal system from the colonial era to today.
“This landmark series will, through gripping personal stories, explore how for more than 250 years, Americans have wrestled with the problem of crime, the purpose of punishment and the meaning of justice.”
The screenings are part of the Justice and the Next 250 Campaign, a new campaign of The Just Trust inviting Americans to look ahead to the future of justice and safety in the country. As the U.S. approaches its 250th anniversary, the campaign is bringing together advocates, culture-makers, policymakers, and community leaders to shift the conversation from what’s broken to what’s possible — centering solutions that can shape safety and accountability for generations to come.
