Introducing our Scholarships and Awards Chair, Erica Hardy!

Erica grew up in North Carolina and earned a bachelor’s degree in environmental science from . Since then, she has worked up and down the Carolina coast as an environmental educator and tour guide.

Erica is currently the education coordinator for ‘s Marine Resources Division and the ACE Basin Reserve. On top of all of this- she earned her captain’s license and is now a backup captain as well! 🌊👩‍✈️

Previous SCMEA Student Membership Scholarship Awardee recently defended her thesis, Coastal Transition Development Effects on Salt Marsh Ecology, and completed her M.S. in Coastal Marine and Wetland Studies from Coastal Carolina University (CCU) under the advisement of Dr. Keith Walters!

Amanda’s research examined the rapid urbanization of the terrestrial uplands in South Carolina and its possible trickle-down impacts across the coastal transition zone gradient.

Amanda is currently working towards her PhD in Marine Science under the advisement of Dr. Lee Smee and serving as a graduate assistant at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab. She aims to utilize oyster physiology, predator-prey dynamics, and nutrient chemistry to expand and push forward restoration research.

Wishing our former Media Secretary, Levi Wagner, the best of luck as he ventures to California to start his first post-grad role as a Marine Science Instructor with the Catalina Island Marine Institute! 🌊✨

Levi has brought countless people closer to the marine world through his work as the Education & Outreach Coordinator for the Students Engaged in Aquatic Sciences Club at the University of South Carolina and on the education team at the South Carolina Aquarium.

We can’t wait to see the incredible ways he’ll continue inspiring others and using education to connect people with the ocean. Congratulations, Levi! 💙
