Before he was the most charming host on television, Graham Norton was a closeted gay kid in rural Ireland with absolutely no way out - except America.

He never made it to LA. He ran out of money in San Francisco, stepped off a bus, and walked straight into Gay Pride.

A flatbed truck of drag queens came around the corner. Then Grace Jones floated by on a parade float. He said his "Irish head and heart were close to bursting."

From that kid with no context, to 63 years old this week and one of the most beloved hosts on television - happy birthday, Graham Norton.
