The crew pulled off a right shiny piece of criminality.
They slipped aboard Mr. Jameson's floating estate, cracked open his fortune, and made off with every credit they could carry. They couldn't have done it without an uneasy alliance with a Companion in Mrs. Jameson's employ—one with access to the man's private safe, his personal shuttle, and a handful of others docked nearby.
While gathering their spoils, the crew discovered a number of folk living under Jameson's boot. Deciding some things matter more than coin, they loaded the newly freed souls onto the shuttles and prepared their escape.
But robbery wasn't enough.
Before departing, the crew sabotaged the estate's thrusters. Once they were safely clear, the malfunction turned catastrophic. The floating palace began tearing itself apart from the inside out.
The job was a success.
The cost was not.
One member of the crew gave their life before they could break atmosphere.
Bruised, battered, and carrying the weight of their fallen companion, the survivors finally reached orbit. That's when they discovered a mighty inconvenient truth: they didn't have enough fuel to get anywhere worth going.
The only destination within reach was Mr. Jameson's orbital station—the very place they'd only recently escaped.
Then they spotted a ship on approach.
A mid-sized transport of unfamiliar make.
For a brief moment, hope stirred.
Then someone read the name painted across her hull.
Aces and Eights.
A vessel infamous in these parts as belonging to none other than Mr. Jameson himself.
Hearts sank. Hands drifted toward sidearms.
Then a voice crackled across the comm.
A familiar voice.
Captain Shaye Colburn.
Relief swept through the crew as they came aboard, paid their respects to their fallen crewmate, and reunited with their Captain at last.
Now the course is set for Santo, where the rescued slaves can finally be delivered to freedom.
After that?
The crew can return to the job that started this whole ruttin' mess in the first place.
The 'verse is wide.
Trouble is patient.
And it ain't finished with them yet.
