🌿 Ready to make every plant in your garden count? 🌿

Not all "native" plants are created equal—and understanding the difference can have a big impact on pollinators, birds, and the health of our local ecosystems.

Join us on Wednesday, June 10 at 10:00 AM for Native or Not? Understanding Plants & Pollinators with Sharleen Johnson of Native Plants to the People at the Charleston HORT Office.
In this fascinating workshop, Sharleen will explore:

🌱 Native plants vs. cultivars, straight species, and ecotypes
🐝 How plant choices affect pollinators and beneficial insects
🌿 The differences between seed-grown and vegetatively propagated plants
🦋 Ways to create a more resilient and wildlife-friendly landscape

Whether you're a seasoned gardener or just beginning your native plant journey, you'll leave with practical knowledge to help you garden with intention and support the Lowcountry's unique ecosystem.

🌿 Rooted in the Lowcountry 🌿

Few sights are more welcome in a Charleston garden than the bright golden blooms of Carolina jessamine. As South Carolina’s state flower, this native vine thrives in our Lowcountry climate, bringing cheerful color to fences, arbors, and woodlands while providing an early nectar source for pollinators.

Through our Rooted in the Lowcountry series, we're celebrating the plants that make our region so special and the gardens that connect us to the natural beauty of the Lowcountry.

💚 Help us continue our mission of inspiring, educating, and connecting our community through horticulture. Support the Charleston Horticultural Society by becoming a member,

Discover another extraordinary hidden garden during Open Days 2026 🌿✨

The Garden at Dr. Vincent Le Seigneur House invites guests to experience a beautifully restored historic Charleston property paired with an elegant new landscape design by Ables Landscapes. Surrounding an impressive 1812 Adamesque-style home with double piazzas, this layered garden retreat blends timeless architecture with lush Lowcountry planting design.

Guests will wander through a series of three thoughtfully designed garden spaces featuring trickling fountains, slate chip pathways, formal boxwood-lined beds, Japanese maples, cascading plantings, blooming white roses, and vibrant seasonal color throughout.

From shady camellia-filled borders and exuberant ajuga spilling over bluestone steps to the serene pool terrace framed by split-leaf philodendrons, magnolias, and towering live oaks, every corner offers inspiration and classic Charleston garden charm. In late spring, the property’s mature wisteria creates a spectacular display winding gracefully around historic iron posts.
