Monday, June 15 is World Elder Abuse Awareness Day ๐Ÿ’œ

Every older adult deserves to age with dignity, respect and safety.

World Elder Abuse Awareness Day was established in 2006 to bring global attention to the abuse, neglect and exploitation that millions of older adults experience each year. While these issues often happen behind closed doors, awareness is one of the most powerful tools we have to create change.

Elder abuse can take many forms including physical, emotional, financial abuse, neglect and self-neglect. It affects individuals from all walks of life and often goes unnoticed. As an agency we have dedicated staff that are on the front lines of this service.

As June 15 approaches, we encourage our community to learn the signs, start conversations and help us to create a culture where older adults feel valued, heard and protected.

Together, we can build communities where aging is met with compassion, dignity and support.

Friday Recap!

Summer has officially arrived and things have been getting busier by the day around the LifeSpan Center!

June is off to a fantastic start with the addition of a few new programs. Our Line Dancing Class is now kicking up its heels on the 2nd and 4th Mondays of each month at 1:00 PM. Our new Drum Fit Class is bringing energy, movement and plenty of laughs every Tuesday at 9:00 AM in the lower level of the Center. Monday June 15th our new Frugal & Thrifty Finds with Ella begins! Pencil this one in as a familiar face from our front desk, Ella shares her favorite thrift store treasures, budget-friendly tips, clever household hacks and creative ways to stretch every dollar a little further.

Outside our walls, community outreach has been keeping us on the move as well. We have been everyone from golf outings to farmers markets and everything in between. Community outreach isnโ€™t always in an office or at a meeting itโ€™s in the day to day activities in which we can walk with those we serve. Help us extend a huge congratulations to Standing Stone Community Center as they celebrate 14 years of serving our community! Their anniversary celebration which began Wednesday continues through Saturday, so be sure to add it to your weekend honey do list and help celebrate this incredible milestone.

This week, we also had the privilege of hosting the quarterly meeting for United Way of Coles County. Gatherings like these are a wonderful reminder of the many organizations working together to strengthen our community. Sometimes the help, support or resource you need is just one phone call or conversation away. We love partnerships like these!

You may have also heard that our Community Socials are back!

Let this serve as your personal invite to join us Monday at 2:00 PM. Create your very own personalized ice-cream sundaes. We hope this is just the sweet treat our community needs during this heat wave.

We have so many more exciting things going on so stay tuned! For now, take a look at some of this week's highlights ๐Ÿ“ธ

JUNE Community Social: Sundaes & A Sock Hop! ๐Ÿจ๐ŸŽถ

Join us this month for a sweet afternoon of fun, friendship and nostalgia! Create your own ice cream sundae with all the toppings your sweet tooth can handle while enjoying the timeless sounds of the 1950s and 1960s.

At the LifeSpan Center, we believe that connection is just as important to overall well-being as physical health. As we age, maintaining social relationships and staying engaged with others can help reduce feelings of isolation, support emotional wellness and bring joy to everyday life.

So grab a friend, make a new one and join us for an afternoon filled with sweet treats, great music, laughter and community. We have seen first hand how some of life's best memories are made when people come together and that's exactly what these Community Socials are all about.
