We’re excited to host a Virtual Resource Fair on Wednesday, June 12 from 1–2 PM — and you’re invited!

Come hear from several amazing agencies across South Carolina who are working to support older adults in our state. Presenters include: Charleston County Probate Court, MUSC Clinical Forensics, SC Victim's Assistance Network…and many more!

Each agency will briefly highlight the services they offer to help meet the unique needs of older adults in SC. Whether you're a provider, caregiver, or community member—there’s something here for you.

The MUSC SC Safe Seniors Program is marking World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD) with a Virtual Resource Fair on June 13th at 10am! We want this event to spotlight the vital services provided by our statewide partners for older adults, promoting aging with dignity and respect.

Our SC Safe Seniors Program is empowering South Carolina healthcare professionals to identify and support elder abuse victims, offering mental health services free of charge. With an estimated 5 million older Americans falling victim to abuse, neglect, or exploitation annually, WEAAD serves as a crucial reminder of this widespread issue. WEAAD, initiated by the International Network for the Prevention of Elder Abuse and the World Health Organization, underscores the global imperative of combating elder abuse, aligning with the UN's International Plan of Action.

WOW! Our local seniors did a fantastic job creating their personal bouquets with with the "Fun with Flowers" class at Waring Senior Center. Discussing the importance of mindfulness and arranging beautiful bouquets has been super beneficial and tons of fun!

Christmas is right around the corner and for some these may be some stressful times. Here are 7 ways to practice Holiday Self-Care to cope with Holiday stress, grief, and difficult family relationships.

- Enjoy your Holiday "failures", imperfections, and everything else that doesn't go according to plan

-May be hard, but practice saying "no"

-Surround yourself with loving and supporting people

-Cherish good memories

- Fundamentals are important - healthy diet, good sleep. and exercise

-Get organized! Set goals for your life and make a plan

-Keep any stress in check - take a step back or delegate

🍂 Fall for Mindfullness🍂

As the weather slowly cools off, it is always important to take a moment to appreciate the changing of the seasons.

This fall, challenge yourself to find what you appreciate in both looking back on this year, as well as going forward.

The glass is half full! There is lots of time left this year to find time to appreciate all that 2024 has given, and all it has left in store. It is time to harvest the good!

Since 2017, our program has provided FREE, confidential, evidence-based, trauma-focused mental health treatment to older adults (ages 55+) who have experienced trauma.
