Here at the Charleston Dog Shelter, we have some amazing volunteers. People who drive many miles each week to Charleston to donate many hours of their time to caring for our shelter dogs awaiting adoption. One of those volunteers is our Curt Graham who recently recognized our need for a new columbarium, one with more spaces to accommodate the ashes of our beloved old-timer dogs who have passed on while living out their lives at the CDS.

Curt built this gorgeous new one for us and we volunteers could not be more proud of it. Volunteer Mike Magby built our first one, which was beautiful and served its purpose for many years. But sadly, as time goes on, we need more spaces for those precious little boxes as we continue to lose our old sweetheart dogs who called our shelter home. We want to thank Curt for donating his time and talents to honoring our sweet old deceased fur babies with such a special token of heartfelt love and compassion. Our little shelter is indeed blessed🐾❤️🐾

Special Day for the Doggies🐾❤️🐾

We welcomed the local Cub Scouts Pack 41/43 to the Charleston Dog Shelter today. Cub Master Carla Woods and leader Becky Ballard brought their sweet little Cub Scouts out to visit the dogs and bring a whole car load of donations for us. We sure appreciate the dog food, bleach, paper towels, trash bags, and chew toys. These are items we use daily at the shelter.

Once gifts were unloaded, the children had a blast spending time with the dogs. They brushed, leash walked, and loved on the dogs and puppies making the visit extra special for everyone involved.

We want to thank Alonna, Trinity, Hazely, Kassidy, Katie, Andrew, and Josie for all of their efforts to make our shelter dogs feel so loved, and we look forward to them coming back any chance they get. Without a doubt, a great time was had by all…especially the dogs. ❤️🐾❤️

Liberty❤️—Our beautiful Liberty girl is is hoping to let freedom ring soon by saying hello to her new lucky family and goodbye to life stuck inside a dog kennel 22 hours a day, 7 days a week. Liberty is a sweet catahoula mix, about 4-5 months old and about 30 pounds. Her activity level is pleasantly moderate, especially for her young age. She absolutely adores people of all ages, as well as other animals. Liberty loves playing and socializing and never meets a stranger. She is fully vetted including vaccinations, spayed, microchipped, and current on monthly tick/flea/heartworm preventative. We would love for you to come meet Liberty 🐾❤️🐾

Bronson❤️—If a happy, pleasant, low-key kind of dog is what you are looking for…the kind that fits in like a comfy, well-worn shoe, then Bronson is your man. This guy is approximately 5 years old, good-natured, calm, and super clean. He takes excellent care of his bed and has been an excellent house guest, according to his foster dad. Bronson is a friendly mix of lab, boxer, with maybe a tad of shepherd thrown in for good measure. He weighs approximately 60 pounds. He has been treated for heart worms and has come through his treatment with flying colors. Bronson is not a puppy, which is the beauty of this situation. He just wants someone he can chill with, go for walks on leash, enjoy movie night with the family while snuggling up on the sofa. Bronson is great around all the lady dogs and most male dogs. His foster family says he has been great with their two lab mix pups, one male and one female. We have no information regarding cats, but with Bronson’s good nature, he would likely acclimate to a cat, especially with proper introduction and supervision. Bronson would be an excellent, loving, low-maintenance addition to any lucky family. 🐾❤️🐾

Tillie❤️—Amazing little Tillie is ready to shake hands with potential adopters. This sweet little girl is sister to Toby (separate post). Tillie is about 5 months old and about 35 pounds. Alert, smart, and super friendly, Tillie would make an excellent furry addition to any dog-loving family. She appears to be border collie mix. Great with people of all ages and other animals. Come shake paws with this precious girl and see what you think. Tillie is fully vetted and available for adoption ❤️🐾❤️
