Why is your carbon footprint important?

Because as carbon is emitted into the air it is taken in by the ocean, decreasing the pH and leading to ocean acidification. This, in turn, upsets the delicate balance of the ocean, leading to coral die offs and declining food sources along the food chain.
Reduce your carbon footprint by carpooling, riding your bike, unplugging electronics, and reducing your home energy.

Thank you to everyone who celebrated with us! Now that you've been given some facts and tips about sea turtles, we want to end on a high note. Decades of conservation work has been put into saving these species and it's finally paying off! An example of this is seen in Florida, where in 2001 there were 198 green sea turtle nests counted. Last year they counted over 14,000 nests! Thanks for doing your part to make this happen 💗

This picture is a very sad reality for all sea turtles, everywhere. Especially during nesting season, turtles are tremendously vulnerable to boat strikes. Make sure when you're out on your boat you are always looking in the water for turtles and reduce your speed when you are close to common breeding areas. Thank you for working with and teaching us more about this issue!

It's nesting season for sea turtles so here are some tips for helping hatchlings get to sea:
1. Be sure to keep your dogs off the dunes where turtles lay their nests.
2. Turn off your lights at night on the beach. Even a flashlight or cellphone light on the beach can mess up turtles' sense of direction as they try to navigate back to the ocean.
3. Kick in the holes/sand castles you dig on the beach. A nesting turtle or hatchling can fall in and not be able to get back out.

**DISCLAIMER:** This photo was taken of a trained volunteer doing turtle patrols in the morning to move a nest into the dunes above the tide line. If you see a nest, DO NOT TOUCH IT! Contact you're local beach community if you're interested in participating in turtle patrols.
