James Island's Oldest Neighborhood Riverland Terrace, developed in the 1940s, is James Island's oldest neighborhood. Sizes and prices vary greatly.

The Terrace is located just 10 minutes west of downtown Charleston along Wappoo Creek and the inland waterway. The neighborhood boasts a public boat landing , Charleston Municipal Golf Course , a playground, five restaurants and numerous antique shops. Leading into the neighborhood is the historic Avenue of Oaks, consisting of 73 live oak trees believed to be over 100 years old. They once led to W

appoo Hall Plantation on the Stono River. A Civil War fortification known as Fort Pemberton, built in 1862, remains today. The Terrace consists of approximately 800 homes. Starter homes of 900 square feet begin at $200,000. Riverland Terrace has an active neighborhood association that meets 3-4 times each year. The community actively works to preserve the historical integrity of the community, thus contributing to the hometown feel.

FYI if you got one of these (or do in the future), please clear the streets during the day. This was supposed to be done within three years of some of our streets being paved so we are right about at that mark. Similar ones were posted on cars and doors about a week ago, but the rain delayed it. No further knowledge of a schedule or order.

A huge thank you to everyone who came out for yesterday’s Riverland Terrace Clean Sweep! ☀️🌿 It was a hot one, but every volunteer helped make our already beautiful neighborhood a little cleaner, greener and brighter. 💚

A special thank you to the Riverland Terrace Garden Club for organizing another fantastic community event. We appreciate all you do to help keep Riverland Terrace beautiful!

And a quick reminder to our dog walkers: Our roads are too pretty to be littered with your laziness. Pick up the p**p, take the bag to your house (and not someone else’s yard bag)!💩🐾

CLEAN SWEEP HAS BEEN RESCHEDULED! JUNE 27! 🪏

Join the Riverland Terrace Garden Club and RTNA for our neighborhood Clean Sweep on Saturday, June 27 from 9 AM to 12 PM. Drop in anytime and help us make our streets, parks and shared spaces cleaner, greener and even more beautiful.

Meet at the windmill by the fire station at Plymouth Park to grab supplies and get started.

Bring WATER, sunscreen, a hat and garden tools. All ages welcome and it is a great chance for teens to volunteer too.

Help spread the word and let’s show our neighborhood some love 💚

Join us for our next RTNA Public Meeting + Social on Wednesday, May 13 at 6:00 PM at Maybank Public House!

We’ll keep the meeting brief and leave plenty of time meet and catch up with neighbors. It’s a great chance to stay in the loop and meet some new faces!

Save the Date! Friday Funday with Foxes Fried food truck on April 17! 🍗🛝

Grab the family and head to Plymouth Park for a fun evening with neighbors. Let the kids play, catch one of the best sunset views in Charleston and treat yourself to (your future favorite if it isn’t already).

Good food, good people, and golden hour by the water… doesn’t get much better than that! See you there!
