While many people think summer is a time for teachers to take a well-deserved break, dozens of Lowcountry educators are spending their summer investing in their craft so they can better serve students this fall.
This morning, the energy was electric as we gathered at Blackbaud to kick off the Summer Multisensory Structured Literacy Cohort!
These educators represent the newest class of Lowcountry Literacy Project Ambassadors—teachers who have chosen to invest their time, talent, and passion into learning how to better support all learners.
Over breakfast, strong coffee, and great conversation, we shared what lies ahead, picked up materials, and began building a community of learning that will support one another throughout this journey.
We are especially grateful for our partnership with Casey Welsh and Savannah Dyslexia. After impacting thousands of educators across Georgia with this training, this powerful professional learning opportunity is available in Charleston.

Together, we are creating local access to high-quality structured literacy training and ensuring that more teachers—and ultimately more students—benefit from instruction grounded in multisensory, evidence-based practices.
These educators are joining a growing movement across the Lowcountry to ensure every child has access to effective reading instruction.
A special thank you to Blackbaud for hosting us and to the philanthropic partners who make opportunities like this possible by providing scholarships for teachers.

Missed this opportunity? Join our email list on the website so you can be the first to know about our next training!

What does it look like when teachers are equipped with the tools to help every child learn to read?
Starting this Tuesday, we're taking you Inside the Classroom to meet the educators, students, and schools leading literacy transformation across the Lowcountry.

First up: Meet Tanya Kydd of St. Andrew's School of Math & Science.
Tanya has seen firsthand how the right instruction can change the trajectory of a child's life. In this week's feature, she shares why this work matters.

đź“… Tune in every Tuesday as we go Inside the Classroom and hear directly from the educators making a difference every day.

This summer, 56 educators from across the Lowcountry are coming together around one shared goal: ensuring every child learns to read.
We are proud to welcome educators from Charleston, Berkeley, and Dorchester counties representing public schools, charter schools, independent schools, and state leadership as they begin training with the Lowcountry Literacy Project.

This cohort represents urban, rural, and suburban communities all investing in the knowledge and tools needed to transform literacy outcomes for children.

When educators learn together, entire communities benefit.
And thank you to every donor who helped fund scholarships for the public school educators! Stay tuned this month to meet some of our trainees.

Learning doesn't have to stop when school lets out.
We were honored to join Live 5 News to share practical ways families can prevent the "summer slide" at home.
At the Lowcountry Literacy Project, we believe that small, consistent reading habits can make a big difference.
A special thank you to our Parent Coach, Katie Reel. and our community partners at the Charleston County Public Library for helping connect families to free resources, books, and support throughout the summer.
Together, we can ensure that more children return to school in the fall ready to learn, grow, and thrive.
Check out the Live 5 story below and share it with a family who might benefit!

Charleston County students are officially on summer break, but one Lowcountry nonprofit is making sure the learning does not stop when the school year ends.

This summer, 53 more educators across the Lowcountry will begin training through the Lowcountry Literacy Project. One trained teacher can impact hundreds of students over the course of a career.
That’s why we invest upstream.
