It is our pleasure to introduce Mr. Bill Turner, PE as the 2024 CEJC Engineer of the Year!

Bill Turner, of Mt Pleasant, is an outstanding engineering leader. As the General Manager of Electric Distribution for Dominion Energy where he is responsible for approximately 375,000 customers and directs a team of 230 company employees and 150 contract employees, with operations and construction budgets totaled approximately $90m annually.

Born and raised in the Winnsboro, SC, Bill graduated with an electrical engineering degree from Clemson University. During 40 years of service with SC Electric and Gas, and now with Dominion Energy SC, he progressed through the ranks from a design engineer, through local and district management to his present position of General Manager of Electric Distribution.

Bill’s leadership skills are also apparent in his record of service to his community and profession through board membership. A few of these include:
- Rotary International, Mt. Pleasant (1993-1999)
- National Electrical Safety Code (NESC), Grounding Committee Member (1993-1997)
- Trident United Way, Board of Directors (2015-2021)
- Clemson University – Electrical & Computer Engineering, External Board of Advocates (2000 – present)
- The Day of Caring project
- Clemson University Energy and Power Research Association

His responsibilities include working 24/7 to plan for and recover from life-threatening wide-scale power disruptions caused by hurricanes Hugo, Floyd, Matthew, Irma, Elsa or Ian (to name a few) and other disasters.

Bill’s boss and President of Dominion Energy SC, Keller Kissam writes that Bill β€œis a leader upon whom the spotlight never shines; a mentor who has reared many; and a servant who exemplifies concern and care for employees and customers alike.”

Please join us in congratulating Bill Turner on this award!

We recently had the pleasure of awarding the Orange Grove Robotics team with a sponsorship to continue their robotics education and competition activities!

This is another example of commitment to our mission to inspire Lowcountry Youth, serve as an advocate of Lowcountry STEM programs, and be the catalyst that creates synergies between our professional member societies, local industry, and educational institutions.

This team is doing incredible work in robotics education for high school students.

And, it is our pleasure to help continue doing this work.

See this blog post for the accomplishments that the team recently achieved: https://lnkd.in/gavTk5Bx

Each awardee and their families were presented with the awards by CEJC leadership at the ECPI campus in North Charleston.

This group of young people is simply outstanding. It is truly incredible to see the achievements that each awardee has already accomplished.

It certainly is enough to feel optimistic about the future of STEM!

Special thanks to Ron Neil for the use of ECPI University's facilities, Jen Meador for delivering the address to the students, and the representatives from the CEJC's member orgs for coming out!

Y'all rock!
