We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Amber Hanna and her team at WV Legal Aid for hosting some of our Kanawha County program participants this past Tuesday.

Their time and expertise in discussing how to navigate kinship care legal and education systems provided valuable guidance and support to the grandparents and caregivers we serve. Sessions like these help empower families with the knowledge and resources they need to advocate for themselves and the children in their care.

Check out some of the great events recently led by our Kanawha County Coordinator, Aryaunna Mosley. During spring break, she partnered with the WVSU EDC to host a special storytelling event for grandparents and their grandchildren. A big thank you to the WVSU EDC team for warmly welcoming our grandfamilies and creating a space for family bonding, generational storytelling, and fun activities.

Last week, she was also joined by Taffy Robertson and Lisa Fisher for an informative session on navigating school systems, covering topics such as IEPs, 504 plans, SSPs, and more.

Check out some of the great events recently led by our Putnam County Coordinator, Amy Young. A few weeks ago, she welcomed Chastity Miller from Community in Schools, along with Boo, the support dog from Buffalo Elementary, for a “Back to School” session. Last week, she was also joined by Social Work Intern Jazmine Hyde and Isaiah Shawver, creator of ScamKit, who facilitated an engaging session on financial exploitation, online safety, and scam prevention.

As we welcome the new year and the opportunities it brings, we are also taking time to reflect on moments we are thankful for. One of those moments was our GrandsGiving Celebration, held near Thanksgiving for our Kanawha and Putnam County Healthy Grandfamilies participants. This gathering created space for connection, gratitude, and community, which are several core values of the WVSU Healthy Grandfamilies Program.

If you are a grandparent or great-grandparent raising your grandchildren, we invite you to enroll and join empowering weekly sessions that provide support, shared experiences, and helpful resources. A free meal is provided at each session to nourish both the mind and the belly.
